Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Borland.
Tiffany, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Before “influencers” were a thing and Instagram was even created, I had a website called Tuolomee.com. I learned coding around the age of 12 and built my website so that I could have my own place to share my favorite fashion trends and outfits. This was made entirely for fun and at the time, I had no idea fashion blogs would be as big as they are now.
After years of making posts and sharing content, I started getting collaborations with brands and also got into modeling. Seeing more and more attention shift towards bloggers/influencers, I created my company to be a place where brands could onboard influencers and content could be created. It has been such a long and fun journey and I have been able to connect with wonderful people all across the globe.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There are always going to be challenges in every business and career. Starting out, I had to convince brands of the value of influencers whether I was proposing a campaign or pitching myself. I would showcase stats, an estimated ROI, etc. Years later, there is such a demand for influencers the biggest struggle is standing out and being original, not just as an influencer but as a business.
Advice that I would give to anyone starting out is to be consistent, authentic and persistent. As long as you are being true to who you are, you will always be happy with the outcome.
Please tell us about Tuolomee and True Brilliance.
As an influencer and business owner, I do everything from collaborating with brands to creating content, organizing influencer campaigns and influencer events to complete branding.
What sets me apart from most companies is that I know all sides of what I have to offer – whether it’s managing influencers or being an influencer, shooting content or being the model. Being able to see both sides of a project allows me to create the very best in all categories of what I do.
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
As a child, I was always the kid on my block organizing events and projects. I started a neighborhood club that had a fundraiser program so that the kids in the club could raise money to do fun activities together. I always thought about how building a team made you so much larger than yourself. It definitely influenced what I do now and how I try to work with people that I can grow with so that we all benefit.
