Meet Austen Moret of Midnight Divide in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Austen Moret.

Austen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Been an interesting journey to get where I’m at. I moved out to California in 2012 to join a band…which I was promptly asked to leave because I wanted to write, and they didn’t want me to. Eventually, lead to various stints in indie bands and then forming my own. I learned a ton of music production along the way and eventually dove into producing and mixing full-time, along with writing and fronting my band Midnight Divide.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely had a lot of hurdles to overcome. Learning the technical side of producing and mixing, band members leaving (or needing to be asked to leave), working with people who didn’t do what they said they would, realizing I needed to be more self-sufficient…having doubters every which way. I remember in college my roommate literally came into my room as I was writing a song to tell me “it’s never gonna happen dude” as my vocals at the time were…a little less than ideal. But I kept working at all of it for years and will continue to do so, to the best of my abilities.

Please tell us more about your work. What should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m the frontman for my band, but I also own a recording studio where I record, produce and mix other artists. It’s called Silverside Recording and it’s right in Hollywood. I’m known for my ability to blend genres and real instruments with pop or hip/hop production, and on the band side of things, my ability to create cinematic, big-sounding songs. I’d say what sets me apart the most is that I really do care about my music and telling a story, and likewise enjoy helping artists tell theirs when I’m producing.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
For me, I have some specific metrics of success I like to hit (a certain number of albums produced, song plays on Spotify, etc.). But ultimately, as long as I’m creating art that I feel satisfied with and can still eat at the end of the day…that’s a pretty big success in my book.
