Meet Scout Sobel of Scout’s Agency in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scout Sobel.

Scout, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started Scout’s Agency (a podcast management and PR company) in February of this year (2019) but my path to get here has been a long one. I started podcasting two years ago. I was a solo-host and a year in, I felt as if I was hitting a wall. After bringing my sister on as a guest, I realized my answer was right in front of me. So I pivoted and started Okay Sis podcast with my sister. After just a few months of podcasting with her, I realized we were able to garner up big guests, get good growth, and amazing press opportunities. I fell in love with the podcast industry and the process of growing and managing a podcast. I had also had previous experience in freelance PR over the years along with a stint in digital media, so I merged the two and Scout’s Agency was born! After eight months of representing just podcasts, we have decided to open our doors to all brands and businesses who need PR – whether that is with digital media or with a podcast tour.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a smooth road in the sense that I am so grateful that I am running my own business. I have been an entrepreneur since I was 22 years old – I started my own magazine, helped launch a women’s digital media site, etc. – and was itching to find the career path that would be my own. After starting Scout’s Agency, I knew this was it for me. We now have an office and an employee, which far surpasses my wildest dreams. However, just because I love it so much doesn’t mean there haven’t been roadblocks. I am now responsible for someone else’s salary and when business is slow for a bit, I am the one who takes the hit. Having everything on my shoulders has been a rollercoaster and navigating the world of clients was hard on me in the beginning – I am a people pleaser by nature and often times overextend myself. I feel as if I have a pretty good grip on it now and understand the importance of balance in business. As with any start-up, it is an up and down journey. What counts is that you refuse to give up during the downs. I was born to do this – it’s my only option – and I will work tirelessly to continue the success of Scout’s Agency.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Scout’s Agency offers a plethora of services: securing guests on podcasts, securing individuals as guests on other podcasts, traditional PR, and influencer campaign marketing. I am most proud that we are a female-run company that focuses on female talent and brands. At Scout’s Agency, we have a personal touch to everything we do. Our clients are not just a number on our roster. Their wins are our wins. All we want is to see our clients succeed and that translates into our work.

What were you like growing up?
As a child, I was a major introvert. I hid in my room, read a lot of books, and wrote in my diary. Poetry, literature, and fashion magazines were my saving grace. I was interested in anything creative and aesthetic. Growing up, I did not exhibit any attributes of an entrepreneur (I wasn’t hustling to make my own money as a fourteen years old even though I was dying to get a job) but I was always very independent and forward-thinking. I questioned authority constantly (probably why I love being my own boss) and was very vocal about my opinions. Despite that, I got along with everyone, was laid-back, and non-judgmental. I definitely beat to the tune of my own drum, hated sports, and just wanted to go to the theater.
