Today we’d like to introduce you to Catherine Kyritsis.
Catherine, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Wow starting from the beginning… I was born in Pretoria, South Africa to a South African mom and Greek dad. By the age of five, all you would catch me doing in photos is sitting right up at the TV, mesmerized by the magic that Hollywood would create. From Star Wars to The Goonies, I wanted to be one of the people that created these magical worlds. The world just seemed so big and endless and it was about to get bigger as my family began our first journey to another country to live : Greece. From the age of six to 18, we lived in Greece, Thailand, and Romania. Each country gave me another world I didn’t know existed and each world wanted me to tell a story. At 18, I moved to Canterbury, UK and received my BA in Film Studies. Still that was not enough for me as I still wanted to be in Hollywood, CA where I knew no matter what I would be a part of that world and create magic. So, fall of 2010, I moved to Hollywood, CA where I began and completed my MFA in Acting. It’s now 10 years later, Hollywood is my home (this is the longest I have lived anywhere). So much has happened and I have learned so much. I have no regrets and I am still on my journey. I know it’s the right journey. I just completed a web series that I co-created, developed, and produced under my production company Little Monster Pictures. It’s always been my dream to have my own company that houses the most unique artists and stories.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
IT HAS NOT BEEN A SMOOTH ROAD. Hahaha, but I have no regrets. I definitely have learned a lot and maybe would have done some things differently. What I would say is go out there and live your life, make mistakes but never lose yourself and who you are because that’s what brought you here. You came here because you felt that you were different and that you had a story that you wanted to share with the world. Another thing I would say is SO important is to create a support system for yourself. A lot of us are on our own here and our friends are our family. Once you have that you know, no matter how many times you fall, you have someone to catch you. We all know in this industry… we have to fall a lot of times.
What should we know about Little Monster Pictures? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Currently, I am a producer and Creative Director for my production company Little Monster Pictures. I have about a decade of experience in production that it just seemed the most obvious step to create my own company and use that experience to help others. We provide services such as development: from brainstorming to putting words on pages, we help make your ideas come to life. We help do this by offering services such as pre-production, production, and post-production: From our hub and network of creators, we can put together a team to make movie magic happen. Everyone has that little monster inside of them. The Little Monster itching to come out, itching to create and be heard. At Little Monster Pictures, we nurture that monster and to us, no Little Monster is the same. Bring your monsters to us and no matter how small or obscure or out of this world they are… let us feed them.
Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
Definitely living in so many countries. It showed me how many different worlds there could be and definitely got me out of my bubble. It made me very open to different experiences and easiely adaptable to changing situations. and From a young age this taught me that you don’t have to be a specific type of person, you can take time to figure out who you are, try different things and eventually, you will get there.
