Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Warren.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my travel page in October of 2018. Prior to launching Geo_Meg I traveled often beginning shortly after college. However, December of 2007 was my first taste of experiencing another cultural norm. This trip was to Paris, France where I studied abroad. Not only was it my stamp to my passport but it was the longest time I spent outside of the US. The experience was so rewarding I made a vow to reach every crevice of the globe in this lifetime, expanding my awareness and pivoting misconceptions. Targeting Europe first then venturing out to the other countries.
Along the way I learned that documentation was almost as important as the experience and because my memory is not the best, outside of painted words, picture and videos were the only way I knew how to lend my eyes to the viewers, I wanted as many people possible to adventure with me. Soon after my first couple of trips, many people began to come to me about travel aspirations and advice on places they were thinking of visiting. In as much I started Geo_Meg as a way to expand my reach, inspire and streamline my experience throughout the globe.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I believe if there’s a will there’s a way, but I also believe focus and discipline played a huge role in shaping my perspective on the bigger picture. Without either I do not believe I would have overcome the need to misappropriate funds necessary to create the experiences I hoped to share with my following.
However, my most difficult struggle were mostly mental. Doubt. with it being so many other travel pages out, I wondered what would set me apart from the others? The mind is so powerful. Did you know our brains make decisions before we even realize it? Theoretically, our brains only need 10 seconds make up its mind. Generally because our subconscious is what’s driving our decision. Patterns, behaviors and experiences almost always influence our decisions. With that, I learned to counter the negativity and fear of what others would think with positive reinforcements. I began to meditate on what good could come from starting my page. And ultimately that is what fueled my launch.
Please tell us about Geo_Meg.
Geo_Meg is a touchpoint for unique travel experiences. I try to give content from personal experience, I want to interact with as many viewers and followers as possible because I know what it feels like to see something so cool and inspiring and yet feeling so far from It ever being your reality. I believe that is what sets me apart. I don’t mind sharing costs and interacting with anyone who wants the inside scoop.
Geo_Meg want to inspire and encourage more travel. Because with more travel comes a broader perspective, with a broader perspective comes more understanding, with more understanding comes acceptance and with more acceptance comes love.
I learn a lot from my time abroad, more than photo ops(which I love by the way) but the real gem is the connections I experience with other people whom I seemily have nothing in common with.
I’m most proud of the people who have been inspired to travel based off my experiences. I’m also encouraged by the wide range of perspectives I’m allowed to share. It excites me!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have a travel group who deserves much Shine! If not for them, I would not have the experiences I’ve been blessed to have. My best friend Tikeila is my number one travel buddy, she’s extremely adventurous and searches out most of the activities we do. Most of the trips I’ve taken has been with her. Courtnie aka Coco, my sister, bring great visual ideas that adequately capture what we are trying to relay. Chrissy, my cousin is the information guru. She’s a walking encyclopedia. She just knows things. And lastly Qiana, she’s the newest to our group and bring the youthful perspective, she’s always hungry for knowledge and ready to take in all aspects of the trip. Each person plays a huge role in the experience. I’d go anywhere with this group!
My older sister is also one of the inspirations behind Geo_meg. I had begun to toy with the idea of starting a page shortly before she came to me with the idea, but she was one of my biggest supporters and inspirations behind actually starting it. And lastly, my parents, though they don’t always agree with some of the places I’ve traveled they have always supported my need to learn of other cultures.
