Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamal Moummad.
Kamal, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Paris, France; and I am originally from Zagora, a beautiful city near the Sahara desert in the Southeastern part of Morocco. I grew up in the suburb of Paris with my six sisters and three brothers. My beautiful parents raised us with wonderful set of values. They taught us the importance of self-respect, hard work, integrity, humbleness, love, generosity, hospitality, and humility. I played basketball my entire childhood, and I came to the United States of America to play college basketball. After enjoying a great college basketball career and graduating with honor, I decided to play professional basketball overseas. I ultimately went from playing basketball to becoming an international model. I worked as a sports model, a fashion model, and a print and commercial talent. I started my career in the Bay Area (San Francisco). I became very successful as a commercial talent. One day, by the Grace of God, I was given the unique opportunity to audition for a comedy on basketball produced by Newline, starring Will Ferrell, Andre 3000 and Woody Harrelson.
After three days of intensive auditioning and trying out, I got booked. I moved to Los Angeles to pursue a new career as an actor. I can honestly say that I found my true calling in life. I simply love to bring characters to life. Especially characters that belong to history. Since first moving to Southern California, I have worked on so many challenging yet extremely rewarding projects. I am now an International actor. I act in French, English, Spanish, and Arabic. I simply love my life. Yes it can be very difficult at times, however, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I feel like my ‘big break’ is right around the corner. Until then, I will continue to work as hard as I can and give back to people less fortunate than me. I love to empower people, especially underprivileged children. I hope that my career will soon blossom. My intention is to start a non-profit organization dedicated to the fight against pedophilia and abuses against children. In addition, I want to help eradicate homelessness and poverty.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a very challenging journey to say the very least. Indeed, it is not a sprint but a marathon. I feel like I have to be extremely patient and steadfast. The main struggle is to keep my head above water. It is either feast or famine. It is also very hard to remain motivated and focused when society is basically telling you to be realistic and to have a Plan B. I strongly think a Plan B tends to distract from a Plan A. Despite all the people who have been doubting me, I keep a positive attitude and I continue to push onward.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
As a Film & Television actor, a writer, an humanitarian, and a peace ambassador, I feel like I am the CEO of multiple companies. I have to be extremely organized and constantly prepared. I truly specialize in bringing complex characters to life. Whether I do it as an actor, a peace ambassador, or through my work as a humanitarian, I pride myself in creating a platform for these very characters to manifest themselves in their own unique ways. I believe that my passion from my craft, my love of people regardless of their origins, religions, or respective set of values, set me apart from everyone else.
What were you like growing up?
Being the eighth born child in a family of ten children, I feel like I was truly blessed. I received a fantastic education growing up in France. Being of Moroccan descent, I received a very traditional Moroccan upbringing. Being one of the youngest, I had to develop a very thick skin, and be very patient. I also became extremely determined to make my own set of dreams and aspirations a reality. I think my work ethic comes from my beloved parents. They are so unselfish and generous. I was an athlete my entire childhood and for most of my life. I grew up playing basketball at a very high level in France, which led me to play NCAA Division College basketball and Professional Basketball overseas. Last but not least, I simply love people. I see the goodness in mankind, and I focus my heart, energy, and emotions on humanity.
