Meet Dawn Raven

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dawn Raven.

Dawn, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started acting at a very young age, moving to LA, starting at the age of ten during the pilot seasons because I’ve known since I could decide that I wanted to be an actor. During the time in between, I grew a tremendous love for basketball as it was a family sport and I grew up watching my brother and his friends in my backyard.

Both my parents and my brother all played collegiate basketball, it’s just in my blood. As a young kid I put in a lot of extra hours in the gym to be the best player I could be, my parents made me decide was I going to continue acting or really pursue a basketball career. I came up with a way to do both. I was going to pursue basketball as far as it would take me and then I would make my way back to my dream as an actor. That’s exactly what I did.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all! Somewhere along the way, I got sick and eventually, I would be diagnosed with a rare kidney disease, eventually needing a transplant. Which I did receive but I will be needing another.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I go by the name of Dawn Raven as an actor, and Dawn Evans as a hooper because the named represent my two different lives as two different types of entertainers. I’m proud of the work and commitment an dedication as an athlete that led to all my success as a basketball player and becoming a successful pro. Dawn Raven has that same tenacity and drives as an actor and I know that the strength it takes to endure my everyday life will translate to another successful career this time in the pursuit of my deepest desire as a professional.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t consider anything that has happened in my life luck. The first thing I am proud to say is that I have worked my ass off for everything that has come my way. But my biggest belief is in God and his divine plan for me. These things were already written for me; I just had to get there. The same thing is happening now for acting, everything I’m doing day to day is preparing me for what God and the Universe already has for me. And it is inevitable that I get to my destination. I just am making sure that when my dreams arrive, (because they will) I’m ready and prepared.
