Meet Pamela Cramer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pamela Cramer.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I took the traditional route career-wise. I majored in finance in college and then when on to business school at Georgetown University. I built a profession in corporate human resources and created what many would define as a successful career. But something was missing. I was very good at what I did but felt confined an limited by the structure.

I longed for something more creative and ultimately convinced my boss to eliminate my job and create a new part-time job for me that would allow me time to explore the things that called me. I did everything. I took writing workshops, I redecorated my home, I went on a cooking vacation to Tuscany and got certified in Reiki.

And then I took an acting class, and it was life-changing. I never felt more like myself than portraying other people. I was alive. I loved it. And when I was let go from work a year later, I decided I would take the opportunity to pursue it full time.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. I moved a lot throughout my 20s and early 30s for work so I thought another move would be easy. But I underestimated the importance of community. All my other moves were because of work, so I automatically had a built-in community that I was moving into. That wasn’t the case when I moved to LA. I’ve made friends through acting and writing, but it takes awhile. And I didn’t have the structure of a regular job, so I had to create one myself. That takes discipline.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I am an actor and writer. I specialize in comedy. I wrote a short comedic film that I starred in. Now I am writing a comedic TV pilot. I’ve also done a one-woman show. I’m most proud of pursuing this passion later in life. And that is what sets me apart from others. I’m not burnt out from acting or the industry because I didn’t start until my 40s.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I find that I have to be my own coach. I have to meditate and do daily affirmations. I set goals and put together plans to reach those goals. And when I’m feeling discouraged I talk to myself as I would a friend. I remind myself of the inventory of things I’ve done and recognized those accomplishments.
