Meet Rachel London of Art + Moxie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel London.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Rachel. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I’ve worked in various creative fields most of my life. I started in musical theatre and grew up around two grandmothers and a great aunt who were visual artists as well. Art literally runs through my veins. I’d paint and sculpt with them in their studios one day and be on stage the next. At some point in my late teens, it dawned on me that I have synesthesia, which means I can “hear” paintings and “see” music, so it makes a lot of sense that I have evolved to become a singer/songwriter and painter. I experience both visual art and music as pure expressions of my connection to self and the way I make sense of and continue to discover life’s unfolding.

In a world where it’s easy to feel so disconnected from ourselves and each other, I find my way back to truth through these mediums and am a huge proponent of inciting this in others by showing them what’s possible. There’s something sacred to me about getting to share pure expressions in the form of art and music and have them be received. It’s a wonderful feeling knowing something I’ve drawn down from the ethers has the ability to meaningfully add beauty and value in others’ lives.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As most creative entrepreneurs can probably attest, being an artist is rarely an easy road, though when compared to the alternative of ignoring your calling, it seems the only viable option regardless of any endured hardship along the way. You really get to see who you are when coming up against some of the extremes the art and entertainment industries will confront you with.

I nearly gave up music last year because I began feeling like a masochist always going back for more criticism and rejection, but I persisted just beyond my breaking point and ended up creating new music about the things I find interesting like aliens, past lives, tantra, sex magic, etc. with one of the top songwriters in the world. I’m extremely grateful I didn’t give up on myself because now doors greater than I ever imagined are opening and I’m aligning with people who inspire and activate me with their talent, enthusiasm, and integrity.

When I began getting into the art world more seriously, I vowed I would not do it the traditional route, that I would carve my own way because trying to do things the way you’re “supposed to” in music caused me years of frustration, self-doubt and struggle and I didn’t want to repeat the process. Amazingly, I was able to create a successful career as a six-figure earning painter organically and with so much more joy and levity. As an art major in college, even the professors spoke of how difficult it was to make a living as an artist as though it’s a rule. I vowed not to buy into that limiting story and instead create new beliefs around what’s possible.

The key I’ve discovered is that I create without putting myself in a position to have to care if a gallery curator is going to like what I’m doing. I’ve learned that as long as you do you, truly, you will find your people. The critical element in creating success for myself in both fields has been scrapping the idea of trying to do things traditionally in systems that are clinging to old paradigms.

Please tell us more about your work.
As a singer/songwriter, better known as LONDYN, I’ve had music on the radio all over the world, on several tv shows and even charted #1 in Europe. My music is mid-tempo pop with esoteric lyricism and ethereal vibes. (www.londynmusic.com)

As a painter, I’ve developed a unique experiential niche bridging the worlds of art and magic by creating high vibrational portals or energetic access points in my work.

My process is highly customized, and I’ve developed a method of connecting with my clients through something I call, magic and manifestation sessions where we seed and activate “ocular subconscious transference,” to create anchor points that will be reflected back at them and constantly restimulate positive associations when they look at their painting.

I do vision casting with my clients and auric reads to make sure their painting is as absolutely customized to them as possible. Because of this, I’ve been named one of the “top emerging artists to watch” by Saatchi Art’s Chief Curator and have even been referred to as “the artist of our generation” by Emmy winning media entrepreneur, Natalie MacNeil.

I offer prints, limited edition series, originals, custom commissions, tote bags, auric reads, and hand embellished prints as well as VIP in-person collaborations. (Please see the “work with me” page on my website for more information).

What were you like growing up?
I believe we are our truest selves in so many ways when we are children and at some point, societal expectations break down our ability to stay connected to our deepest dreams.

As a child I loved animals, nature, painting, writing, singing, dancing, acting, performing, playing dress up, making friends, understanding people and learning. At some point I was told to grow up, go to college, get a “real job” and stop being who I naturally am.

I played that game for many years, even studying at Stanford and working in marketing and public relations among other odd jobs that never made me happy. I felt small and unimportant, and I’ve spent much of my adult life focused on personal development and spiritual growth so that I could rehabilitate my artistic nature and get back to being more of who I truly am… who I was as a child.
