Today we’d like to introduce you to Chad Davis.
Chad, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in Houston Texas dreaming to one day live in a big city like Hollywood, and now I’m finally living that dream. As a teenager, I felt like I didn’t fit in with the rest of the kids because what I wanted to do was so different.
All my friends played sports, and I wanted to act and do music, and I knew that at a very young age.
My high school theater teacher, Mrs. Handy, told me about a performing arts school in Hollywood, The American Music and Dramatic Arts. I soon auditioned and received a scholarship to come to Hollywood and follow my dreams.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Losing my mother while living here in Hollywood was probably the hardest thing I’ve ever had to deal with. I questioned even continuing my career here. I love Hollywood but not more than my family.
If I could go back in time, I would definitely go home more and spend time her versus feeling like I would “miss” something if I leave. So if you are a young artist chasing a dream. Don’t be in a rush, it will come. Make sure you put your family before anything because once this is gone, they’re the only thing you’ll have.
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I’m Actor/Rapper that loves them both equally. They both satisfy a different part of my creativity, so I have to both. My first major project was a documentary I directed “Making it in Hollywood. I interviewed homeless people living in LA and asked them how they got to where they are now. Most of them were artist that slowly got hooked on drugs. The film headlined ABC, KTLA, and NBC.
Before I landed my big role, I started off doing music videos for major artist like Lil Wayne, Drake, Estelle, Katy Perry, Lupe Fiasco and YG. From there I starred in a comedy special for MTV titled “Greatest Party Stories” which made MTV news. I also Played a football player on a TV show on Comedy Central, “Idiot Sitter.”
I recently just wrapped a Pilot for Netflix “Nobody’s From L.A.”
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood would have to be staying up all night with my cousins making music. I learned how to rap from them, and they were AMAZING. So I’m grateful that I had some good teachers to show me what real hip hop was.
