Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Deepa Patel.
Dr. Patel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Like most people – probably you too – my life has come with its fair shares of hardships. I grew up in an Indian American family, and from a young age, I remember carrying a burden of expectation that I’d soon enough take over the family business. This persistent presumption caused me to keep my own passions at bay because I never considered them to be an option. My life had been decided for me.
Later, when I was 15, my sisters and I were hit by a drunk driver, and my older sister, Dixie, died. As if that wasn’t enough, I also carried around the shame of my sexuality in a culture that only validated relationships between men and women. I was scared of rejection and losing my family, so I kept that secret to myself, all the while feeling alone, lost and spiritless.
Much to the dismay of my wildly creative, intense, impassioned younger self, I ended up running the family business, managing eight corporations at once until I worked myself into a state of brokenness. To heal, I looked inside, focusing on strengthening my relationship with myself, exploring my own visions of success and identifying my personal divine gifts.
Through this process, I fell in love with myself. I learned to show myself compassion, to accept myself as I was, and to nurture my own spirit. I decided to choose my love for myself over my fear of other people’s expectations and live my life authentically true to myself. And most importantly, I started the process of manifesting my ideal life – which is when I discovered my dream of helping other people manifest theirs.
I went back to school and earned my Masters in Spiritual Psychology, Masters in Transpersonal Studies, Masters in Human Development, and a Doctorate in Human and Organizational Systems. I now help people from all walks of life break through their self-limiting beliefs to live more joyful, loving, fulfilling lives. I sincerely hope I have the pleasure of talking with you one-on-one soon. It would be an honor to help facilitate the manifestation of your best self.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Launching my practice was somewhat easy since business and creativity came naturally for me, as a product of an engineer father and an artist mother. The true challenges were within, the vulnerability of exposing the many aspects of myself that I kept quiet and in general the fear of being seen as I typically felt most comfortable being introverted and behind the scenes. I knew that in order for me to make the greatest impact in this world I had to show up and open the door to my being, so others felt comfortable to reach out and become vulnerable with me. Luckily, inner work is something that drives my soul! The experience of going through opening my practice led me through a journey of continuing self- love, acceptance, and reflection.
Please tell us about Doctor 11:11.
The alignment with my life’s purpose has created a priceless passion for the work I do. As a healer, I thrive on being of service and helping people find their happiness. Specifically, working with women, millennials, and the LGBTQ community have been of most fulfilling to me. My life experiences, travel, and international work has shaped me in understanding humans on a different level of acceptance and intimacy. I love helping people come to the realization that we are all self-aware beings with infinite possibilities. Living life with limiting beliefs only hold us back from experiencing the dream life that we all desire.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I have no regrets! I love my journey so far and it’s only going to keep continuing with love, compassion, and drive. I am currently working on a few book concepts and hope to make it on the New York Times Best Sellers list. My intention is to make a worldwide impact in the heart and souls of many and help impact the quality of life people are experiencing from an internal perspective. It will include topics related to self-love, forgiveness, and emotional expression as an explorative start to the path of healing and living a purposeful life.
