Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Pangilinan.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Vanessa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started beauty blogging in 2005, after growing increasingly frustrated not being able to find swatches or makeup looks of products on Asian skin tones similar to mine. I started a blog and put my passion for photography and makeup together, started to post makeup swatches, and documenting the products I used for makeup looks. Soon after, people were posting links to my blog in makeup forums, and was gaining more visitors and readers, making a ton of new friends in the process!
In addition, I was able to work alongside some really incredible brands, who trusted me and my vision, allowing me to try out their products and share my experience.
Now, with other social media platforms making it a lot easier to reach more people, I now post a lot of my content on Instagram (@nessasarymakeup), Snapchat, and IG stories. It’s rewarding to talk to people online who share the same passion who support you and your journey. My passion for makeup and art led me to work for a makeup company today, and it’s been an adventure ever since!
Has it been a smooth road?
A lot of challenges generally in the “online space”, is just negativity you’ll sometimes get from people who do not want to see you grow. Sadly, often times, it’s the people you know in real life who you think are your “real friends” who don’t support you, who don’t comment or like any of your things, and overall just talk about you behind your back. I have had people think that blogging, in general, is silly, but I have always stayed true to myself, and my passion, and it’s opened up a lot of doors and opportunities for me.
My advice to other women who are in similar situations is to not be afraid and to follow your dreams; regardless of what people say or how many opportunities fall through. You’ll never know unless you try and if something is that important to you, you’ll figure out a way to make it happen one way or another.

In my daily job, I am a Sr. Influencer Marketing Manager for a makeup company, basically working with influencers such as myself to help promote our products. Being an influencer helps me put myself in their shoes, making me more aware of what gets them excited, and really helping them foster their creativity. It’s definitely all about the relationships you build, and just supporting one another. I think once you take the time to really listen to others, you are more in tune with their wants and needs and vice versa and find ways to meet in the middle.
Which women have inspired you in your life?
My grandmother has definitely been a source of inspiration for me, she’s been a hard-working matriarch all her life, always supports her family, and has overcome cancer 3 times. Despite everything she has been through, she has remained upbeat, positive and has never taken life for granted. She inspires me daily to always be thankful for every moment and everything we have.
