Meet Lisa Nissanoff of ME SPA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Nissanoff.

Lisa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
ME! Bath®, ME SPA’s parent company, was founded by my husband Benjamin and me in 2002. We began by selling our debut product Bath Ice Cream® in local farmers’ markets in the San Francisco Bay area. We quickly created a cult following of celebrities and prestigious hotels & spas that remains to this day. A year ago we sold that business to PDC brands, which is currently owned by CVC Capital, a multi-billion dollar private equity corporation, Since June 2014, I have been running our other venture, ME SPA which currently has six luxury day spas nationwide.

OUR PURPOSE:
The decision to venture into the spas was a personal one. Five years ago I received the painful news that my mother was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis. After a long hard fight, my mom succumbed to PF and was taken from this world at the young age of 61.

My mother, Ruth Jacobs among being an incredible psychologist, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, was also an avid spa goer. While giving so much to others, she recognized the importance of taking time out for herself. Two years after her passing, our family has opened ME SPA in my mother’s honor – a place that celebrates the moments that bring people joy.

Has it been a smooth road?
As with life and any business, nothing worth anything ever comes easy. Managing two hundred employees can be a feat but it is all worth it.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that LA is bustling with tons of industry, not just entertainment. LA is a fascinating city with an extraordinary entrepreneurial spirit. Natives and transplants alike are motivated to make a difference here. I love that I am able to raise a family in such a fun city with beaches, parks and great restaurants that still has a neighborhood feel and also have the flexibility to run my own business.

Coming from New York, I have a keen appreciation for the weather. My main negative is the cost of living.
