Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Barta.
Nick, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
For awhile in LA, I was pursuing the path of an actor and wanted to film as much as possible. I wasn’t booking work really. I’d be involved with smaller projects like web-series and sketches online. Eventually, I got fed up and bought a camera. From there I just practiced and got my hands dirty running a camera. I got where I am today because I didn’t lead up on the gas. Any photo or film opportunities I jumped on. Even if I wasn’t “suited” for the job, I would find someway to be included. I started filming web-series for people and photographing upcoming actors and models. Practice makes perfect.
Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing’s a smooth road. If it is, then I don’t think you’re learning or getting on the field experience. My struggles were the people around me weren’t motivated or as motivated as me. Then people wouldn’t give me a chance to work with them, so I’d miss an opportunity to showcase my work or do something new. It’s about consistency. If I didn’t book work with anyone, then I’d create my own. Asked my friends to let me photograph or film them. Or I’d walk around the city with the camera and shot. Sometimes I’d photograph or film my dog. There’s always an outlet. Just needed to keep digging.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see my work taking me around the world. I want to see new things and learn as much as possible. And I hope I get to the level of success to share it with my people and inspire others. It’s about good vibrations.
Has there been a particular challenge that you’ve faced over the years?
It was believing in myself. The simple fact of putting in your hours and doing the work is rewarding, but it’s easy to get distracted and knocked off track. Really work at what you want to achieve and it can be done. Get your mind right and you’ll better your life. I believe now…
Let’s change gears – is there any advice you’d like to give?
Work hard play hard. Yes, you need to communicate well, network, and be your own brand. What’s truly important is doing “good work.” Whatever job I book, I put my head down and handle my business. The same code applies to my personal work. Do “good work” and you will be recognized.
