Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Ridgle.
Hi Tyler, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Growing up between the San Fernando Valley and West LA, I was surrounded by the arts and loved anything creative. Writing, theatre arts, singing, dancing, acting, costume design, makeup, they all inspired my expression. Without the arts I felt lost. But I also played sports and always put my faith and family first.
My diverse and well-rounded upbringing presented me with a lot of possibilities career wise. I became a news reporter for an ABC affiliate a few months after graduating from Cal State Northridge with my bachelors in Broadcast Journalism which took me to Southern Oregon for 2 years, moved back to LA to explore reality TV production for CBS Big Brother, looked into artist representation and spent 2 years working at CAA as an assistant and thought maybe one day I could be an agent.
Though I knew I might be judged for going back to school to get my license as an esthetician, I took a risk and ultimately chose to follow my passions. Creating and connecting. Since graduating from Paul Mitchell, I get the opportunity to make people feel beautiful every day, whether I’m doing makeup or providing a skin treatment. Though many of my appointments with clients are brief, it means something to them when I remember our last conversations from the month prior. The same way it means something to me when they say I helped them with a skin issue they had been battling. There’s so much we learn from each other.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has hasn’t been easy but I am blessed with supportive people in my life to help me through the hard times. Any success I’ve had has required me to believe in myself, which is a big ask for a girl who was extremely shy once upon a time.
I had to find my confidence on stage. My theatre teacher made me scream on stage multiple times while rehearsing a scene until he believed my performance. That helped to bring me out of my shell. I had to humiliate myself live on air, more than once, to learn I actually can come back from my mistakes. I had to remove a little too much hair during an eyebrow wax to learn the hair will grow back and eyebrow tinting is always an option just in case!
My fears and failures have pushed me to be better.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an esthetician and sugaring hair removal specialist at Dazzle Me Skin in Highland Park. I’m most proud of upholding my standards and values no matter what service I provide.
I’m known for leaving my clients skin both smooth and glowing, making sure they feel great after every service.
I think what sets me apart is my ability to provide effective skin care and glam! Flawless makeup means nothing if the skin underneath is neglected.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lessons I’ve learned during my journey have been to stay true to myself and to rest my body instead of ignoring the signs of burnout. When I make an effort to prioritize my mental and physical health, work feels like play!
