Check Out Geraldin Ferrer’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Geraldin Ferrer.

Hi Geraldin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started creating content back in 2016, originally focusing on beauty and makeup reviews before eventually transitioning into sharing my natural curly hair journey. At the time, I was learning how to embrace my natural hair after years of damage and transitioning, and I began sharing the products, tips, and techniques that genuinely helped me along the way. What started as simply documenting my journey slowly grew into a platform and community built around authenticity, confidence, and self-expression.

Over the years, my content naturally evolved into lifestyle, wellness, and personal growth. I’ve always wanted my platform to feel relatable and honest, not just highlight reels. There were moments where life challenged me deeply, especially during the pandemic when I struggled with my mental and physical health after a car accident and stepping away from creating content for a period of time. That season forced me to reconnect with myself, prioritize my health, and rebuild my confidence from the inside out.

As I started focusing on my wellness journey, getting back into fitness, and healing mentally and emotionally, I slowly found my passion for creating again. Since then, I’ve continued to grow both personally and professionally, working with brands, building meaningful relationships, and expanding creatively into new spaces. Earlier this year, I also had the opportunity to illustrate two children’s books, which was an incredibly meaningful milestone for me creatively and personally.

Today, I’m in a much more intentional space. I create content that reflects who I truly am, while also balancing my career, personal life, creative projects, and nonprofit work with Behind the Smile Inc.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all. It hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges for me has been learning how to balance multiple responsibilities at once, working a full time career, consistently creating content, managing side projects, and still making time for myself personally. From the outside, social media can sometimes make everything look effortless, but behind the scenes, it takes A LOT of discipline, energy, and mental balance.

There were moments where I felt overwhelmed trying to give 100% to everything at the same time, and I had to learn that it’s okay to pause in certain areas in order to focus on what’s truly pouring back into you positively. That was a major mindset shift for me because I used to feel guilty for stepping back or slowing down creatively. Over time, I realized that constantly forcing yourself to create or perform while running on empty only leads to me hating what I’m doing.

I’ve also had to navigate the pressure that comes with social media, the expectation to always be posting, engaging, and showing up while still trying to protect your peace and maintain boundaries. Since I’m naturally a very private person, finding that balance between being authentic and keeping parts of my life sacred has been something I’ve continuously worked through.

There have also been times brands do not want to offer campaigns because of a gap in posting, and truly those are brands I prefer not to work with, because as creators we’re not robots and we cannot be at 1,000 all the time.

At the same time, those challenges taught me so much about self awareness. I now understand the importance of prioritizing my mental health, giving myself grace, and recognizing that growth doesn’t always happen during the busiest seasons. Sometimes it happens during the quiet moments when you step back, reset, and sit with your quiet season.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a creative, a healthcare operations leader, most recently an illistruator but a huge part of my focus right now is the work I’m doing the nonprofit Behind the Smile Inc., where I serve on the board as Secretary and heavily involved in the operations. A lot of my work behind the scenes involves project coordination, I’m helping develop strategies that allow us to grow our impact within the community. Our organization is focused on mental health awareness and giving back to youth through meaningful programs, resources, and community initiatives. Operations has always been something I genuinely love and naturally thrive in. It’s what I do every day in my full time career, so being able to apply those same skills to something I’m deeply passionate about has been incredibly fulfilling. I enjoy building structure, creating organization, bringing ideas to life, and making sure everything runs smoothly both internally and externally.

What makes it even more meaningful is knowing that the work is tied to a purpose greater than myself. Behind the Smile Inc.’s mission and values align so closely with my heart, especially when it comes to giving back, creating safe spaces, and supporting youth and families within the community. Being able to use my creativity, strategy, and operational skills to help make a real impact is something I’m extremely proud of.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about Los Angeles is that it truly feels like a melting pot. There’s so much opportunity here, so much creativity, and so many different paths you can explore depending on what you want to be involved in. You’re surrounded by people from different backgrounds, cultures, industries, and experiences, which makes the city feel very inspiring and constantly evolving. There are always community events happening, creative spaces, networking opportunities, and people building something meaningful, whether that’s in business, entertainment, wellness, fashion, nonprofit work, or social media.

What I’ve learned, though, is that living in Los Angeles is really about being intentional. There could be a million things happening at once, but it ultimately comes down to what environments, spaces, and people you choose to surround yourself with. I think one of the harder parts about the city at times is navigating authenticity and genuine connection. Because there’s so much happening and so many people trying to build or grow, it can sometimes feel difficult to find spaces and relationships that feel truly genuine. That’s why I’ve become very intentional and particular about the energy and people I keep around me. For me, staying grounded, authentic, and connected to purpose is the most important thing, regardless of how fast paced or opportunity filled the city may be.
