Today we’d like to introduce you to Maud Lazzerini.
Hi Maud, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am Maud, a French filmmaker now based in LA. I come from a very small town in Burgundy. I worked as a director in Paris mostly on branded content, web series, short form fictions. In 2018, I decided to move to Las Vegas and open my production company Glitz Entertainment there, with the goal to create cinematic content for shows, resorts and artists. It took me a year to get established and getting consistent work, which is when I decided to move to a bigger pond: LA. I arrived at the end of February 2020. A couple of weeks later, the world shut down and I had to find a way to keep my business afloat, maintain my visa status and stay the course, this is when I started taking photography more seriously. Before then I would hire a photographer on set if needed, but my work was mostly as a director and shooter. Now photography accounts for 60% of my business and has become my passion. I started shooting film two years ago and I love it, I love the way it can elevate content so beautifully.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is it ever? Haha. I’m very grateful for the work I’ve gotten but it truly hasn’t been a smooth road. Covid slowed the growth of my business considerably, the strike slowed things down again, and navigating immigration as a foreign business owner has been its own ongoing challenge. And yet I’ve kept growing, kept shooting, and built relationships with artists, models and brands from all around the world.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I create cinematic, tailor-made content – photos and videos – with a vintage twist for brands, artists and anyone who needs elevated visual storytelling.
What sets me apart is my aesthetic: it’s feminine, a little showgirl-y, a bit vintage. I now shoot about half my work on film, which gives everything a quality, a sense of luxury and warmth that’s hard to replicate. I don’t just document, I try to elevate whatever I’m shooting to help my clients either reach a bigger audience or showcase a different side of themselves..
What I’m most proud of is that this is mine. I built this business from scratch, in a new country, through a pandemic and a strike and every obstacle in between.
I’ll be honest, I tend to focus more on what’s left to accomplish than what I’ve already built. But when I stop and look back, I’m proud of the body of work and the fact that I never compromised my vision to get here.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love LA. I love the creativity, the diversity, the personality of each neighborhood, it’s a beautiful city that never stops inspiring me. Having lived in Paris for over ten years I know many consider it prettier, but Paris can be very uniform. LA has a richness and energy that never gets boring.
What I don’t love as much is that it can be an isolating city. It’s so spread out that it takes time to find your people, especially when a pandemic hit during my first years here. The cost of living can be pretty ridiculous, and there’s a transactional quality to relationships that takes getting used to. But I’ve found my people and built something real here, and that’s everything.
