Today we’d like to introduce you to Jakub.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m musician , composer and sound designer.
I began my musical journey at the age of 13, playing in various local bands. I started out on the guitar and eventually moved on to the piano; I became interested in jazz and music for media. My desire to explore music led me to enroll at the Academy of Music in Katowice to study composition and arrangement. This helped me develop my skills and confirmed my belief that this is my one true path in life.
At the age of 21, I began writing music and tried collaborating with local artists. This led to collaborations with my first clients in the gaming industry and with directors. As my experience grew, I received more and more collaboration offers, which led to my participation in projects such as Outriders for People Can Fly and Terminator Resistance for Teyon.
At the same time, I began working with various music agencies and production music labels in Los Angeles that represent my music and have allowed it to be used in over 60 television series around the world. Among them are the Emmy-winning series *The Weekly* for *The New York Times* and the Emmy-nominated documentary series *Vice*.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The hardest part was landing my first commissions for video game music and sound design. Before that happened, I spent many years honing my skills. The same goes for my first TV placements—it took several solid years of work before that happened.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
What I’m most pleased about is that I’ve been able to participate in many international projects and that people from all over the world have been able to hear my music and sound effects in video games, TV series, and movies. That really motivates me to keep working and growing in this challenging industry.
I’m pleased with my collaboration on the Triple-A video game Outriders and that my music has been used in projects that have won or been nominated for Emmys
What matters most to you? Why?
The most important thing is to find joy in what you do—in watching yourself grow and overcoming the daily challenges that contribute to your continued development. Cultivate your passion and avoid the burnout that is so common in today’s world.
