Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Mendez.
Hi Emily, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I never planned on becoming a founder. I’m a former therapist who unexpectedly found myself drawn into the world of content marketing and PR for mental health professionals. It started as a side gig. I found that I really enjoyed helping therapists and other behavioral mental health professionals talk publicly about mental health in a way that felt accessible, stigma‑free, and deeply human.
By 2021, I stepped fully into entrepreneurship and built what is now Priceless Copy, a PR‑focused agency for therapists and mental‑health brands.
Besides being a former therapist, I also have lived experience with bipolar disorder. This has become a part of my voice and the reason clients trust me. I understand the work from both sides, as a clinician and a client.
Today, I split my time between running my agency, Priceless Copy, and creating lived-experience-based educational content through my platform, @thrivewithbipolar. My work sits at the intersection of mental health, entrepreneurship, and advocacy.
Whether I’m helping a therapist get featured in major media outlets or creating lived-experience content online, my goal is ultimately the same: helping trustworthy voices become more visible in the mental health world.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has definitely not been smooth. Like a lot of entrepreneurs, I have had my share of struggles. The most significant challenge has been being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. About a year after founding Priceless Copy, I was hospitalized and diagnosed with bipolar I after a severe manic episode.
At the time, I was working 80 hours a week or more, not sleeping much, and hyper-focused on my business goals. In the entrepreneurial world, working like this is often praised as dedication. It’s seen as the price you pay to “make it.” But, for me, it was the beginning of a mental health crisis.
Since then, I’ve learned how to build systems that support my mental health. I’ve set boundaries that protect my well-being.
It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s made me a more intentional leader, and it’s allowed me to better support the therapists and other founders I work with.
We’ve been impressed with Priceless Copy, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Priceless Copy is a PR‑focused boutique agency that supports therapists, mental‑health brands, and mission‑driven startups and organizations. We offer mental health public relations representation, and we also offer content marketing services to support that visibility.
Our services help mental‑health professionals be seen, trusted, and understood online. The goal is to increase the credibility of mental health information online. That way, the public has credible mental health information that they can rely on.
Right now, studies show that over half of the mental‑health content circulating on major social platforms is misleading or inaccurate. People are trying to understand their symptoms, self‑diagnose, and support loved ones, but they’re often getting advice from unqualified creators instead of credible experts.
That’s the gap Priceless Copy exists to close. Unlike general PR and marketing agencies, we work almost exclusively in mental health, which means every placement and piece of content is created to help credible voices speak louder than misinformation and stigma.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I listen to a mix of podcasts depending on what mood I’m in. I enjoy business-related shows like The Goal Digger Podcast, Business Wars, and The Diary of a CEO. I like MrBallen because I love learning about human behavior.
Long walks without a podcast are also great. Some of my best ideas come from giving my brain some space.
