Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Alzate.

Hi Alexander, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello! I’m Alexander Alzate, a 38-year-old Colombian actor and director, specialized in the action genre with more than six years of experience in the audiovisual industry. I founded Alextremo Films with the purpose of developing my own projects and establishing myself as a reference for action cinema in the country. I have directed and coordinated action scenes for films, series, and short films nationally and internationally, and I was the lead actor and action director in the Guatemalan film *El Ojo y El Muro*. I have also directed two short films for SmartFilms, cinema made with cell phones, and a project currently in the Work In Progress stage titled *Hasta el Último Aliento*. Today, I am producing my first feature film.

The motivation to create my first feature film comes from the obstacles I have faced while trying to develop action cinema in Colombia. For years, I received the message that this genre was not viable in our context and that it could only exist within Hollywood models. Faced with that limitation, I decided to transform the difficulty into a creative proposal: to write a film that combined comedy and action as a response to that restrictive imaginary.

This first feature film is a conscious blend of both genres and, at the same time, a satire of North American commercial cinema stereotypes. The project questions the idea that action does not belong to us and proposes reinterpreting it from a local perspective, with humor, identity, and our own context. Through human and relatable characters, the story reflects on everyday heroism, ethics, and duty, demonstrating that in Colombia it is also possible to tell action stories with originality, risk, and cinematic ambition.

My first feature film is the result of my training, my experience, and my conviction that our cinema can explore new genres without losing its essence or its own voice.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey as an actor and action director has been marked by the absence of national references in this genre and by a recurring notion of impossibility: the idea that action cinema does not belong to our cinematography or to our country.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Soy un actor colombiano con más de una década de experiencia en cine, televisión y teatro. Mi entrenamiento combina la creación de personajes y la improvisación, junto con un entrenamiento sólido en artes marciales, combate escénico y manejo de armas. Esa combinación me permite moverme naturalmente entre el drama, la acción y la comedia. He participado en producciones nacionales e internacionales como Nurses, The Eye y The Wall, una película guatemalteca que ha ganado varios premios internacionales en los que soy el actor principal, The Revenge of Analia, entre otras. En cada proyecto, aporto disciplina, compromiso y autenticidad para dar vida a personajes memorables.

También soy director de cine especializado en escenas de acción, con más de seis años de experiencia en la industria audiovisual. Tengo mi propia productora cinematográfica, Alextremo Films SAS. Mi objetivo es traer un estilo distintivo al cine colombiano mediante el desarrollo de producciones profesionales, rigurosas y visualmente impactantes. Me apasiona contar historias de acción y ficción que no solo cautivan al público, sino que también muestran el potencial del talento colombiano en el escenario internacional, tanto en actuación como en producción dentro de este género. Actualmente tengo dos largometrajes escritos, uno de los cuales está en desarrollo y buscando financiación, y un cortometraje listo para ser proyectado en festivales de cine internacionales.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Constant preparation, training, and attending as many festivals as possible are key; never give up. Growth comes from surrounding yourself with better-trained people who can help you reach your goal.
