Today we’d like to introduce you to Seth Thielges.
Hi Seth, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Thank you! I got brought out to Los Angeles by a recruiter who sat in on an audition I did way out in Minnesota. It was at a theater festival and a recruiter from the Art of Acting Studio saw my performance and wanted me in their program! I never thought I would end up out here, I always thought I would end up in New York for theater and musicals, but I’ve found a love for film here and a lot more theater than I was expecting.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have been very fortunate to not have any major road blocks until recently, and I think thats because I can get very type A. I love planning, analyzing, projecting, all that stuff; I’m a very future oriented person. So since high-school I’ve had my sights set on the stars and my feet and hands in the details, how much would it cost, what jobs are flexible, do I know anybody who needs a roommate? That kind of stuff.
But now that I’m out here and navigating new territory that you can’t really predict, I’m finding a lot of struggle in learning how to change plans on the dot. But that also comes with a lot of freedom and joy in making quick decisions and always staying on your toes.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I guess I would be most proud of my recent role of Lewis in Angeles in America pt 1 (pictured below). He’s a stressed out, overthinking, over explaining, lover of his boyfriend who was recently diagnosed with AIDs. He’s also in over half of the play and has a monologue of nearly three pages, not to brag.
What I loved about this production was the cast was on stage the whole show, singing and playing instruments, underscoring the scenes. It was so hard. Mentally, physically, and emotionally. But it incorporated nearly all the elements of theater that I fell in love with, music, dancing, catharsis, community, and imagination. I could never have asked for a more perfect opportunity.
You can find more of my work through my instagram, I keep it pretty well updated on everything I’m working on. It also has a link to my YouTube channel which houses a few of my acting a directing works.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m pretty good at archery! I used to shoot for fun a lot and try to keep it fresh in my summers.
