Today we’d like to introduce you to Blooms by Maison d’Emilie.
Hi Blooms by Maison d’Emilie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Alex and I are the co-founders of Blooms by Maison d’Emilie, but before anything else, we’re best friends. We’re both Armenian and first-generation immigrants, raised in families that came here with everything to build and nothing handed to them. That upbringing shaped us—it taught us resilience, discipline, and the importance of creating something meaningful not just for ourselves, but for the people around us.
Nursing was always our foundation—it’s where our compassion and care for people truly developed—but over time, we found ourselves craving something more creative, something that brought beauty not just into others’ lives, but into our own as well.
That’s how Blooms was born. What started as a passion quickly became a purpose. Alongside our incredibly talented main florist, we’re deeply involved in every design, pouring our creativity into each arrangement. Alex brought our vision to life digitally—building and managing our website and all online logistics—while together we’ve shaped the brand into something that feels personal, elevated, and intentional. It’s been so special to discover that we’re not just nurses, but artists in our own way.
There’s something truly rare and beautiful about building a business with your best friend—someone who shares your vision, your drive, and your passion. We constantly push and inspire each other, and that kind of support makes all the difference. In a world that can feel overwhelming, we believe creating beauty and holding onto hope matters more than ever.
We’ve been open for just under a year, and in that short time, the love and support from our community has meant everything to us. Watching people connect with what we create has been incredibly fulfilling. This journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth every moment—and we’re just getting started.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—we’re still very much in the bumpy phase. The LA market is incredibly competitive, and building something that stands out while staying true to our vision has been a real challenge. As first-generation entrepreneurs, we’ve had to figure everything out on our own while balancing demanding careers in nursing—and I’m also back in school advancing my education.
There have been moments of doubt and slow periods, but those challenges have only made us more resilient. What keeps us going is our shared vision, our work ethic, and having each other through it all.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We specialize in elevated, design-forward florals that prioritize quality and originality. We source our flowers directly from farms in Ecuador and Colombia, which allows us to cut out the middleman and maintain a higher level of freshness and consistency—something our clients notice immediately, especially with how long our roses last. That level of quality keeps people coming back. We’re also very hands-on in the creative process—we’ve created countless pieces ourselves and take pride in being deeply involved in every part of the business. As small business owners, we believe it’s essential to know the ins and outs of what you do—your products, your designs—because when you do the work, it becomes natural to speak about it with passion. Nobody will ever care more about your business than you. What sets us apart is that we don’t copy or replicate trends—we stay true to our own creative vision, focusing on pieces that feel intentional, refined, and uniquely ours. We’ve also been fortunate to work with a number of celebrity clients—while we can’t name names, we’re truly humbled that our work has caught so many eyes in such a short period of time.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
To be very honest, support hasn’t always come easily—and I think that’s a reality many people don’t talk about. There’s a saying that a stranger will become your client faster than your own friends, and we’ve experienced that firsthand. Building something from the ground up can feel lonely at times, and a lot of the journey has been figuring things out with just ourselves and our small team.
That being said, we give so much credit to the people who have shown up for us—our loyal clients who found us, believed in our work, and kept coming back. They’ve truly been the backbone of our growth. And of course, our team and each other—we’ve leaned on one another through every high and low. It may not always look like a big support system from the outside, but the few who do show up, really matter.
