Today we’d like to introduce you to Celeste Gross.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Celeste and I started women weave baskets when I came across these beautiful baskets while shopping at a grocery shop in Los Angeles. I bought one of the baskets and I found the wholesaler information and sent them a message asking if I could represent and sell their beautiful baskets. I was approved so a few months later I went ahead and I built my website and I started women weave baskets. It’s been a work in progress and a hell of a learning curve that I’m still learning every single day, but I am up for the challenge.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The hardest part is learning as you go. I’ve never been a person to sit down and make a plan. I’ve always been a person that just starts something without really knowing what they’re doing and learns along the way. Wow, that might not be the most practical way to do things it does work for me, but there’s lots of expensive lessons to be learned in that road to knowledge and developing something that you’ve never done before.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Women Weave Baskets?
I started women weave baskets initially offering hand woven in baskets made in Africa by women.
I believe in supporting businesses that are authentic and give back and don’t produce waste and this is why I fell in love with these beautiful baskets. Since then I have merged my passion for Travel and my eye for fashion and started offering a curated collection of items that I choose while travelling around the world so since then I’ve added beautiful jackets made in India from my latest Indian travels. I will continue to add items as I continue to travel the world and explore. All items are carefully chosen to empower communities, especially women and children.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I feel that anything that you make with a good intention and with the intent of helping others will succeed. Success to me is creating a sustainable business that does not only profit agreed but shares the profit with everyone involved so there’s a chain of people that thrive with every transaction made.
