Today we’d like to introduce you to Nate Paterson.
Hi Nate, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My photography journey started when I was around 15 years old. Me and my brothers used to go out with a camera just as something to do together, but after a while I realised I genuinely loved it. I would spend hours at home setting the camera up on self timer and forcing myself to shoot in manual mode so I could properly understand how everything worked. Learning the settings, lighting and composition on my own is what really made me fall in love with photography.
As I got more confident, I wanted to challenge myself and work in environments where I had to think quickly and capture moments properly. That led me to doing photography at Champs Barbers, which became the perfect place to experiment creatively. I tried everything from portraits and detail shots to action shots and social content. It taught me a lot, not just about photography, but about branding and how important visuals are when creating an identity for a business.
I always wanted to create content that felt fresh and different and push social media posts further than what I was seeing at the time. That mindset ended up connecting me with people across the world and eventually took me to America, where I worked with barbershops, musicians and tattoo artists while capturing the culture and atmosphere through my lens.
From there, my work naturally moved more into live music and events, which gave me opportunities to work with some of the people I grew up looking up to, including Machine Gun Kelly and Chris Jericho. From backstage portraits to live shows and brand campaigns, every experience helped shape the way I work creatively today.
Over time, that journey led me to starting my own business, building an agency-style creative company focused on content creation and brand direction, helping brands, artists and businesses build a stronger visual identity.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s definitely had its struggles from work that’s been unpaid to build a portfolio, late nights, clients refusing to pay and going legal, to accepting the worst anyone can say is no. But I wouldn’t change it, it’s been stressful but rewarding
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialise in content creation – photo and video work.
Some of my proudest moments are landing a magazine cover, landing a book cover are surreal moments still but honestly the list is endless of little moments that make me proud for a self made artist to have the recognition and reach I’ve had In my time.
