Today we’d like to introduce you to Bethany Reed.
Bethany, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always wanted to be a photographer and nothing else really. When I was young, my mom used to always get me disposable cameras and ever since then, I’ve been working my way up to something more serious.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle I’ve dealt with happened pretty recently. I started college when I was still in high school and had a really hard time finding a place that fit my education needs as far as photography goes. So back in 2015 my mom and I decided I should move across the country to CA to attend my dream school. This was a huge deal, people don’t often leave where I’m from and it was emotionally and finically a leap. I loved everything about my program and was getting the artistic and technical knowledge I had been lacking, only to have the school be shut down for a handful of crazy reasons when I only had two semesters left. Very long story short, I was able to finish up in the same amount of time at a sister school offering a teach-out but it really put a wrench in my long-term plans.
Please tell us about brrphoto.
I consider myself to be a fashion and conceptual portrait photographer. I prefer using available light but also work full time in a studio. It can be hard to figure out what sets you apart from others in such a saturated market but I like to think how I work with models and my use of color brands me.
