Rising Stars: Meet Priscilla Crawford of Manhattan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Priscilla Crawford.

Hi Priscilla, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
From the quiet rhythm of the South to the relentless pulse of New York City, Priscilla Crawford has built her career with intention, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to her craft. Her journey isn’t one of overnight success—it’s a story shaped by patience, sacrifice, and years spent refining her artistry behind the scenes.
Arriving in the city with big dreams of becoming a platform artist, Crawford understood early that mastery requires more than talent. She immersed herself in the industry from the ground up, working as an assistant for years—observing, learning, and protecting the integrity of her work at every step. In an era driven by shortcuts and instant visibility, she chose the long road, valuing technique, professionalism, and consistency above all.
Today, Crawford is recognized for her versatility—specializing in all hair types and textures, with a particular mastery in hair extensions. Trained by Amoy Pitters herself, she developed a refined expertise in advanced methods such as K-tip extensions, a technique she not only executes with precision but continues to perfect. Her skill set extends beyond extensions, with a strong command of color and cutting—making her a well-rounded artist whose work balances creativity with technical excellence.
That foundation is evident in everything she creates. Her work reflects not only elevated technique but also a deep respect for individuality. Whether behind the chair or preparing for the stage, Crawford approaches hairstyling as both a discipline and an art form—one that demands vision, intention, and authenticity.
Her growing presence on platforms like Instagram has amplified her voice, showcasing a portfolio that speaks for itself. More importantly, it has positioned her as an emerging force among a new generation of artists redefining beauty standards with purpose and skill.
Priscilla Crawford represents more than a stylist on the rise; she embodies the discipline it takes to turn ambition into longevity. Rooted in Southern beginnings but sharpened by the demands of a major city, her story is a testament to what happens when passion meets patience—and when talent is given the time to fully develop.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I remember thinking that once I graduated, everything would finally begin to fall into place. I had a plan—at least I thought I did. My friend and I used to talk about building something together, working side by side, chasing the same goals. It felt solid, like something I could rely on. But life doesn’t always move in alignment with your expectations. She chose a different path, prioritizing a relationship over the career we once imagined together. And just like that, I found myself standing alone at the starting line.

So I kept going anyway.

I opened my own suite with no real safety net. No family backing, no consistent support system—just me, figuring things out as I went. It was isolating at times, building something from nothing without anyone to lean on. But it also forced me to become resourceful, to trust my instincts, and to push forward even when things felt uncertain.

Eventually, I made the move to New York City. That felt like stepping into a completely different world—fast-paced, competitive, and full of possibility. But also full of illusions. In New York, people will promise you opportunities, collaborations, introductions—things that sound like they could change your life. And then, just as quickly, those promises disappear. I learned the hard way that not everyone is a person of their word.

Finding stability there was another challenge entirely. Even something as basic as finding a place to call home felt overwhelming. The process was stressful, expensive, and often discouraging. It tested my patience and resilience in ways I hadn’t expected.

Professionally, I was surrounded by talented, successful people—people I admired and learned from. But I also started to see another side of the industry. Not everyone wants to see you grow. Some people are comfortable keeping you in a supporting role, encouraging you to stay an assistant rather than stepping into your own spotlight. It’s subtle, but it’s there.

Through all of it, I kept going.

Because at the end of the day, this journey became less about who stayed and more about who I became. Every setback, every disappointment, every moment of standing alone—it all shaped me. It taught me independence, resilience, and the importance of believing in my own vision, even when no one else does.

I didn’t have the path I expected.

But I built one anyway.

What are your plans for the future?
Absolutely. My vision has never been about choosing just one lane—it’s about building a career that allows me to move between worlds. I was inspired by a book by Crystal Wright that really shifted my perspective. It made me realize I don’t have to choose between working in the salon or working on set—I can do both, and I fully intend to. I highly recommend her book *Hair, Makeup, and Fashion Styling Career Guide*, which you can find on Amazon—it gave me clarity and direction at a time when I needed it most.

Becoming a platform artist has always been one of my goals. Even though the industry has evolved over the past 5 to 10 years, my passion for it hasn’t changed. I love staying in motion, growing, and keeping my creativity alive in different spaces.

Working in a full-service salon has shaped me in so many ways, and I truly enjoy it. But I’ve realized I’m not someone who wants to be confined to just one specialty. I love versatility—working with all hair textures, experimenting with color, creating sharp, intentional cuts, and especially styling updos. Weddings are one of my favorite experiences to be a part of. There’s something powerful about contributing to such an important moment in someone’s life.

At the same time, being part of Amoy Couture Hair has introduced me to a deeper appreciation for extensions. It’s a specialty that requires precision, creativity, and focus—and I’ve grown to really love the process. It keeps my mind engaged and constantly learning, which is something I value in my work.

Looking ahead, I want to continue blending all of these passions—salon work, on-set opportunities, education, and creative styling—into one evolving career. I’m not interested in limiting myself to one path. I want to expand, explore, and create a career that reflects every part of what I love.

For me, the future is about movement, growth, and doing it all with intention.
