Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Jong.
Hi Adam, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I moved to the U.S. from Italy in 2016 with my wife and son. It was a big reset for us—we left behind our friends, our support system, and started over with just family here.
From the beginning, I knew I wanted to build something of my own. I didn’t know exactly what yet, but I knew it had to be mobile and flexible. At the time, I was working as a waiter and saving up while trying to figure it out.
The idea for Party Plot came from a personal experience. I took my son to a laser tag venue, and it wasn’t a great experience—too much waiting, mixed age groups, extra costs, and no real flow. It felt like something that could be done much better. That’s when the idea started.
In 2018, after my grandfather passed, he left me some money, and I decided to invest it into starting Party Plot.
I officially launched—and about a month later, COVID hit. I had to shut everything down almost immediately and pivot to doing real estate photography and drone work just to keep up with expenses.
About a year after restrictions were lifted, I was finally able to go full-time into Party Plot, with a lot of support from my wife at the time.
Two years ago, my wife had a stroke, and since then Party Plot has become our main source of income. That added a lot more responsibility and made it even more important for me to build something stable and reliable.
Since then, I’ve focused on creating a business that is simple to run, consistent, and dependable, while still delivering a great experience. That journey—from starting over to building through uncertainty and responsibility—is really what got me to where I am today.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road.
Besides the bigger challenges I mentioned, a lot of the difficulty was just building everything from scratch. I had to figure out the equipment, the setup, the flow of the games, and how to make the experience actually work smoothly in real life—not just in theory.
On top of that, I was starting a mobile business… without even having my own vehicle. I still rent one today, so even just logistics and transportation have always been part of the challenge.
It’s also a very competitive space, and I’m one of the smallest operations out there—it’s basically a family-run business. So I had to find ways to stand out without having the scale or resources of bigger companies.
Another thing that was harder than I expected was building trust at the beginning. When you’re new, people don’t know you yet, so every event matters. You’re proving yourself every single time.
And I’ll be honest—things like reviews affected me a lot at first. I remember getting a 1-star review, and even though it barely changed my rating, it still bothered me because I take the experience very seriously. Over time, I learned to focus more on consistency instead of perfection.
Then on the personal side, I’ve also had to manage increased responsibility at home, which made it even more important to build something efficient and sustainable. It forced me to make the business more efficient and sustainable, not just functional.
So no, it hasn’t been smooth—but every challenge pushed me to build something more solid, or refine my systems.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Today, I provide mobile laser tag experiences for private events, with plans to expand into public park sessions as the next phase of the business.
I focus on creating experiences where everything just works the way it should. Kids stay active and engaged, and parents don’t have to deal with confusion or stress.
It’s a small, family-run operation, so every event matters. I’m very hands-on and pay close attention to timing, setup, and overall flow to make sure everything runs smoothly.
What I’m most proud of, honestly, is that I opened the business—period. I set a goal to build something of my own, and I did it. Then I made it through COVID, which could have easily ended everything before it really started.
Since then, I’ve been able to maintain a strong reputation and, most importantly, support my family through this business. That’s what matters the most to me.
I also genuinely enjoy what I do. I get to work outdoors, and when the crowd is having fun, it makes the whole experience even better.
What sets me apart is transparency, simplicity, and fair pricing. I’m very clear upfront—no hidden fees, no confusion, no last-minute surprises. I’ve built the process to be straightforward and hassle-free, while keeping pricing accessible without lowering the quality of the experience.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is the importance of being clear and structured from the start.
Early on, it’s easy to rely on verbal agreements or try to be overly flexible, but that usually creates issues later. Most of the negative situations I’ve dealt with came from not having rules and expectations clearly written and communicated in advance.
Putting everything in writing keeps everyone aligned from the start and avoids confusion.
I’ve also learned that not every problem can be prevented, but with the right structure and communication, most issues can be reduced or avoided entirely.
In the end, clarity and consistency make everything run smoother—for both me and the customer.
