Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Cooper.
Hi Abby, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My path to acupuncture began through my own health challenges. After my first few treatments, I realized that this cool, mysterious, and remarkably effective medicine was exactly what I wanted to devote my life to.
Since then, I’ve explored acupuncture through a variety of professional settings—working in hospitals, retirement communities, private practice, and beyond. Each experience deepened my understanding of how powerful and versatile this medicine can be.
After more than a decade of treating a wide range of patients and conditions, I knew it was time to create a space of my own—one that reflected my philosophy of healing and care. That vision became a reality with the opening of The Sanctuary South Bay Acupuncture.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Building a life—and a business—is rarely a perfectly smooth road. The process inevitably brings challenges, but it also has a way of shaping you into something stronger and more refined along the way.
Opening The Sanctuary required a great deal of faith and a willingness to step into the unknown. Like many new ventures, the first year came with important lessons. One of the biggest was my early decision to accept all insurance plans—something that initially seemed like the right path, but ultimately proved unsustainable. Eight months later, I made the difficult choice to pivot and rebuild the practice from the ground up.
It was a humbling experience, but one that reinforced the importance of trusting the process.
As you know, we’re big fans of The Sanctuary South Bay Acupuncture. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The Sanctuary South Bay Acupuncture was created as a place where people can step away from the pace and stress of everyday life and focus on healing in a calm, peaceful environment. My vision was to create more than just a clinic—I wanted to build a true sanctuary where patients feel supported, safe, and reminded that healing is ALWAYS possible.
At The Sanctuary, I specialize in acupuncture for pain management, neurological conditions, women’s health, I also offer cosmetic acupuncture and microneedling treatments designed to support natural skin rejuvenation and healthy aging. Each treatment is personalized, blending the wisdom of traditional acupuncture with a modern understanding of health, skin and knowing that the way our skin looks is a reflection of out internal health.
What sets the practice apart is the level of care and attention each patient receives. Treatments are never rushed, and every visit is designed to be restorative. I’m especially proud of the environment and brand we’ve cultivated—one that feels peaceful, warm, and deeply intentional.
Ultimately, I want everyone to know that acupuncture can be a powerful tool for both healing and prevention. At The Sanctuary South Bay Acupuncture, the goal is simple: to help people feel better and more alive in their bodies.
