Rising Stars: Meet Soulie Nova of Houston Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Soulie Nova.

Soulie Nova

Hi Soulie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started singing young and booked my first professional performance with the Houston Grand Opera at just nine years old — that’s really when everything clicked for me. I’d already been writing songs as a kid, but in my early teens I began taking it seriously, using music as a way to process real-life experiences. Over time, I found my confidence through recording, producing, and collaborating, and that’s when my sound really started to feel like *mine*.

I’m a 22-year-old H-Town–raised R&B, pop, and soul artist, songwriter, and co-producer with dreams bigger than Texas. Storytelling is at the core of what I do — everything I create is rooted in lived experience. My sound blends vulnerability with rhythm and confidence, and I’m intentional about making music that feels honest and emotionally real.

I’m also open about navigating bipolar depression and autism, which both shapes how I experience the world and create. Music has become one of my healthiest outlets — a space where I can translate intense emotions, overstimulation, healing, and growth into something meaningful for myself and others.

I’m proud of how much I’ve grown — vocally, mentally, and creatively. From singing in church at six years old, to performing with the Houston Grand Opera at nine, to now preparing for my debut opening act gig at Dan Electro’s, every chapter has shaped me. Building momentum independently and staying committed to my vision, even in challenging seasons, means everything to me.

What really sets me apart is how hands-on I am. I’m deeply involved in the writing and production process, and I care about the message just as much as the melody. I’m not chasing trends — I’m focused on connection. I want people to feel seen, understood, and empowered when they press play.

As a young woman balancing music, mental health, and creative independence, I’ve learned that success isn’t just about big moments — it’s about consistency, maintaining faith the size of a mustard seed, and staying true to who I am. If my journey or my music encourages even one person to keep going, then I’m walking in my purpose.

This is only the beginning for me. Everything I’m building is rooted in intention and authenticity, and I hope anyone who comes across my music feels inspired to honor their own creative path and healing journey — even if it’s not linear or easy.

And I’m genuinely excited for what’s ahead.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road for me. Like many artists, I’ve had to navigate self-doubt, creative burnout, alcohol abuse, financial limitations, and the pressure of balancing everyday responsibilities while staying committed to my craft. I’ve also battled with my bipolar depressive disorder, which has made consistency and confidence challenging at times.

There have been moments where I felt misunderstood or unsupported in previous creative organizations and environments , which pushed me to take a step back and refocus on my growth and individuality. Learning how to protect my peace, set boundaries, and remaining confident in my voice has been one of the biggest challenges — but also one of the most important lessons. Every setback has ultimately helped me become more intentional about my artistry and the direction I want to take moving forward. I’ve been going hard at this music stuff for 14 consecutive years and I’m just barely seeing the fruits of my labor appear!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a Rnb, Pop, and Soul recording artist, producer, and songwriter. At nineteen, I independently released a single called *My Guides* on YouTube, which organically reached over 1.1K views within its first month. That moment gave me the confidence to keep going and showed me that people were truly connecting with my vulnerability and poetic storytelling.

Since then, I’ve continued refining my sound through recording, producing, and collaborating with other creatives in GrammyU. I’ve released several singles that have received positive feedback, including *So Done* and my most recent track, *All I Want (Is You) * — each one reflecting a different layer of my growth.

My work is deeply intentional. I refuse to sing or record about anything that doesn’t resonate with my real-life experiences. I only write and create from what I’ve genuinely felt, lived through, and overcome — whether that’s being cheated on by an emotionally unavailable person, falling in love again, admiring a crush from afar, grieving my late brother’s untimely passing, or creating spiritual ballads that honor my ancestors and guides.

I see my music as a reflective tool — a way for listeners to sit back, think, and reflect on how my lyrics may or may not relate to their own lives and personal experiences. I want to use my gift of singing and songwriting to speak up when others don’t have the strength to do so, turning vulnerability into a tool for connection and in-depth introspection.

Right now, I’m focused on continuing to make honest, emotionally driven music that allows listeners to feel seen, heard, and 100% ”Novalicious.”

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
on February 28th 2026, my latest single ”All I Want” was publicly aired on WUTK 90.3!!! That has been my most favorite milestone so far.

Lately, I’ve been working on my debut five-track EP titled *Stages*, a deeply personal project that represents the five stages of grief after experiencing infidelity. Each track captures a different phase of my intense eight-month emotional healing journey, expressed through honest storytelling and immersive, emotionally driven sound.

The project has been co-produced by the incredibly talented female music prodigies Isa Machado and MITM, alongside myself, SoulieNova. Together, our creative vision is playing a powerful role in shaping the sonic direction of this body of work. The EP also features FER, the Peruvian R&B pop artist, bringing soulful melodies and depth, alongside Baby-Gap, the lyrical rap prodigy, whose sharp pen and raw delivery add another compelling layer to the storytelling.
