Today we’d like to introduce you to Yamila Guerra.
Hi Yamila, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Yamila Guerra, a Cuban-born singer, dancer, actress, songwriter, and producer, and my story begins with the rhythm of my roots. Growing up surrounded by the rich musical culture of Cuba, I fell in love with music and dance at a very young age. Performing wasn’t just something I enjoyed, it was part of who I was. Over time, that passion evolved into songwriting and eventually producing my own music, allowing me to fully express my artistic vision.
My journey hasn’t been just about building a career; it’s also been about growth, resilience, and balance. As a mother, entrepreneur, and independent artist, I’ve learned to create opportunities rather than wait for them. From filming projects in Cuba with incredible live musicians and dancers to performing on international stages and developing my own creative space inspired by the warmth of analog sound, every step has shaped who I am today. I’ve built my path with discipline, faith, and a deep desire to connect with people through music that makes them feel alive, empowered, and ready to dance.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. My journey has been deeply shaped by immigration, sacrifice, and resilience. I emigrated from Cuba with my family, we first moved to Spain and later to the United States. Starting over in new countries meant adapting to new cultures, new industries, and constantly proving ourselves again and again. There were moments of uncertainty, financial challenges, and the emotional weight of leaving our roots behind.
At the same time, I’ve been blessed to build my career alongside my family. My brother, Yalil Guerra, is my producer, and together we own a music production company with our parents, the musical duet Rosell y Cary. Working as a family has been both a strength and a responsibility, we hold each other to high standards and share the same passion for excellence. The road hasn’t been easy, but every challenge has made us stronger, more united, and more determined to create meaningful music that represents who we are and where we come from.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m recording and producing with my brother Yalil a new album deeply rooted in Cuban and Latin music and culture. I specialize in high-energy live performances that blend tropical rhythms like salsa, mambo, and cumbia with a modern, international sound. Beyond performing, I’m actively involved in the creative process—from concept development to recording—working closely with my brother and producer, Grammy winner Dr. Yalil Guerra. Together with our parents, the popular musical duet Rosell y Cary, we run a family music production company where tradition and innovation come together. We had won 2 Latin Grammy awards and 8 Grammy nominations.
I’m known for bringing authenticity and passion to the stage—when I perform, I don’t just sing; I connect, I dance, I tell a story. Having lived in Cuba, Spain, and now the United States, my multicultural journey influences my artistry and allows me to connect with diverse audiences. With more than 25 years of professional experience, I bring a deep understanding, expertise, and passion to everything I do. I had toured many countries in Europe and Latin America and I had performed at prestigious events such as the Oscars and at renowned venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall and Disneyland California Adventure. My performances extend to major corporate events for Amazon, L’Oréal, Hulu, Verizon, and John Deere; museums such as LACMA and OCMA; as well as international theaters, festivals, and casinos.
My television appearances as an actress and singer include CBS, NBC, ABC, SHOWTIME, TNT. Telemundo, TVE, UNIVISION, PBS, and more. Throughout my career, I shared the stage with iconic artists such as Celia Cruz, Omara Portuondo, Jennifer López, Rocío Dúrcal, Camila Cabello, Andy García, etc.
What I’m most proud of is building a career alongside my family while staying true to my roots. What sets me apart is that my project isn’t manufactured—it’s generational, it’s personal, and it’s built on real musical legacy, discipline, and resilience. I bring not only talent, but history, heart, and a deep respect for the craft.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Yes — I’m very intentional about what I consume because it directly impacts my creativity and discipline. I maintain a strong and active presence on social media, where I engage daily with my community of around 2 million followers on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, and more. My IG is @yamilaguerraofficial and Yamila Guerra.
For personal growth and mindset, I love reading The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz — it keeps me grounded and aligned with integrity. I also enjoy Atomic Habits by James Clear because consistency is everything in both motherhood and a 25+ year career in music.
For inspiration and leadership, I often listen to The Gary Vee Show and On Purpose with Jay Shetty — they fuel my vision and remind me to think bigger.
Creatively, I study trends and music through platforms like Spotify and YouTube, but I also protect my mental space. Balance is key.
At the end of the day, my biggest “resource” is staying connected to my purpose — as an artist, entrepreneur, and mother of my two kids.
