Meet Courtney McVey of Modena Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney McVey.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m the founder of Modena Consulting, a boutique strategy and design studio that helps women-led service businesses build brands and systems that feel intentional, clear, and sustainable.

My path here has been shaped by several chapters. I studied in Northern California, where I first developed a strong appreciation for creative thinking and independent problem-solving. After college, I moved into a mix of industries that may seem unrelated at first—construction, marketing, and entertainment in Los Angeles, but each one deeply influenced how I work today. Construction taught me the importance of structure and process. Marketing sharpened my eye for positioning and messaging. Entertainment showed me how powerful storytelling and presentation can be.

Eventually, I relocated to Las Vegas and began reflecting more seriously on what kind of work I wanted to build long-term. I realized I was most fulfilled when I was helping founders bring clarity to their idea; when I could combine strategy, design, and organization into something cohesive and supportive.

Modena grew out of that realization. I saw so many talented women building meaningful businesses but feeling overwhelmed by fragmented systems or digital foundations that didn’t reflect the quality of their work. I wanted to create a consulting experience that felt thoughtful and grounded, where beauty and structure worked together.

Today, my work blends brand clarity, digital presence, and operational systems. I focus on helping founders move from feeling scattered to feeling confident and supported. Modena continues to evolve, but it remains rooted in intention, strong foundations, and the belief that growth should feel aligned, not chaotic.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a perfectly smooth road, and I think that’s true for most founders. One of the biggest challenges has been learning where I’m most effective and who I’m best positioned to serve.

Early on, I worked with a broad range of clients across industries. While that gave me valuable experience, I began to notice a pattern: many of the women founders I worked with were carrying an extraordinary amount of responsibility on their own. They were deeply capable and driven, but often trying to manage branding, operations, marketing, finances, and client delivery without structured support.

As a female founder myself, I understood that instinct to take on everything alone. I’ve felt it too, the desire to carry every responsibility personally. Over time, though, I saw how easily that pace can lead to burnout when there aren’t clear systems and structure in place.

One of my biggest growth moments was recognizing that I didn’t need to serve everyone to do meaningful work. Choosing to focus on women-led service businesses wasn’t about exclusion; it was about alignment. I understood the pressures, the ambition, and the quiet resilience I was seeing in those founders, and I realized my skill set was uniquely suited to support them.

Refining my niche brought clarity to my work and strengthened my impact. It allowed me to build deeper relationships and create solutions that address not just aesthetics, but sustainability. That shift has been one of the most defining and rewarding evolutions in my journey so far.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Modena Consulting is a digital strategy, branding, and website design studio focused on helping women-led businesses build a strong, aligned online presence. I work with founders who are ready to elevate their brand, clarify their messaging, and implement the systems needed to support sustainable growth.

My services combine brand strategy, website development, and marketing systems. I don’t just design websites, I help clients define their positioning, refine their visual identity, and build structured digital workflows that support how their business actually operates. Whether I’m working with a service-based company, an e-commerce brand, or a growing online business, the goal is the same: create clarity, credibility, and cohesion across every touchpoint.

Many founders reach a point where their brand no longer reflects the quality of their work, or their operations feel reactive rather than strategic. Without clear systems and a strong digital foundation, growth can become overwhelming. My role is to bring structure and intentionality to both the front-facing brand and the behind-the-scenes systems that power it.

What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is that Modena is built on trust and mutual respect. I see every client relationship as a partnership. That means clear communication, shared accountability, and honest collaboration throughout the entire process. Strong results come from strong relationships, and I believe that clarity and respect are just as important as creativity and strategy.

At its core, Modena helps founders strengthen their foundation, refine their direction, and grow with clarity and confidence.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My biggest advice is simple: start before you feel completely ready. You don’t have to be 100% prepared. If you’re 40, 50, or even 75% ready, that’s enough to begin. Waiting for perfection or external permission can keep you paused far longer than necessary. Progress creates clarity, and refinement happens along the way.

I also believe it’s important to recognize when you need support. Family and friends will always want to encourage you, and that’s valuable, but growth often requires guidance from people who have built something similar to what you’re working toward. Seeking out the right consultants, mentors, or fellow business owners can accelerate your learning and help you avoid unnecessary setbacks.

Starting imperfectly and staying consistent is often more powerful than waiting for the ideal moment. Keep moving, stay open to refinement, and surround yourself with people who challenge and support you equally.
