Meet Kimberly Jones of Kelton Legend in Carson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Jones.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kimberly. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my career in Human Resources at Nationwide Insurance Company’s corporate office, in Columbus Ohio. I have worked for Honda, Raytheon, GE Aviation, Northrop Grumman and NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. After working for a number of great companies, I decided to start my own company, in an effort to help as many companies as possible while also helping to improve the job market for job seekers.

My experiences are unique in that I have been exposed to and supported globally unique programs:

1) While working for Raytheon I managed the Polar Services Program and completed a 6-week deployment to Antarctica.

2) While working for NASA, we began creating the staffing plan for Mars 2020.

Also, I am an Instructor at UC Irvine, teaching courses in the Global Human Resources Management Program.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
A combination of smooth and struggle. I was fortunate to connect with a few other small business owners who launched their companies around the same time that I launched my company. We were all learning our way at the same time: setting up tax ID #’s, making workspace at home to save money, deciding what technology to use, managing our finances and building a client base.

The struggle has been competing for business, especially via social media. The market, in general, is saturated with so many messages: clothes, shoes, furniture, pets, etc. Creating a compelling marketing message, and getting the message in front of the right clients is so critical. Getting their attention and keeping their attention requires the entirety of your efforts and resources. You have to decide which clients are worth the effort.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Kelton Legend – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Kelton Legend is a talent acquisition consulting company. We partner with both companies and job seekers. For companies; we provide consulting services to ensure that their hiring strategy and hiring processes are aligned with their business strategy. We also ensure that they have an effective diversity strategy and utilize the best technology. Equally important is ensuring the job seekers are prepared to engage with potential employers. We offer workshops and coaching on career identity, career search, 5 star resumes, winning interviews, offer management and onboarding.

The expertise that our consulting practice is built upon is first class and remarkable. I have worked for some of the most recognized corporate brands in the world, and have utilized my experiences and accomplishments as benchmarks in providing solutions to clients. Also, I am partnered with technology companies who enjoy favorable positioning in the HR technology space and am called upon as a trusted resource to help retain clients.

I celebrated my first year in business February 1, 2018. No loans, no investors, no debt!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
This year is critical! It’s important to evolve my business model and identify new clients: corporate and individual. As such I am planning to increase my exposure at events, particularly as a keynote speaker. Diversity conferences, Talent Acquisition events, and industry events that allow me to share my expertise in hopes of connecting with potential clients are fundamental to my growth plan. For example, April 19, I will be speaking at the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries conference in Las Vegas. The topic I was asked to speak about is how to retain talent. The demand for talent and changes in the talent market driven by generational changes, the concept of longevity and tenure have evolved. But ensuring consistency in productivity and quality of products is impacted by having a knowledgeable and stable workforce. Though the industry is somewhat new to me, the topic is not. Researching the industry for this event has provided me with a body of knowledge that can be used for other clients.

Keeping an open mind, taking calculated risks, and accepting projects that place me center stage are key to this year’s plans.
