From humble beginnings to becoming one of Stockton’s most dynamic community leaders, Mafae Yunon-Belasco has built a life centered on empowerment, service, and storytelling.

Her journey gained international recognition in 2003 when she represented the Philippines as Miss Philippines–World at the Miss World Pageant 2003. That life-changing experience deepened her purpose: to help others discover their voice, their confidence, and their mission in life. After the pageant, Mafae dedicated herself to mentoring young people and pageant delegates, guiding them in personal development, leadership, and poise on and off the stage.

One of her greatest passions is teaching confidence to the youth. Whether it’s mastering the catwalk, preparing for college interviews, stepping into job opportunities, or pursuing their deepest passions, Mafae empowers young people to walk into any room with presence, authenticity, and self-belief.

Beyond the stage, Mafae’s gift for storytelling and mentorship also led her to become a published co-author of three books, sharing wisdom on leadership, empowerment, and personal growth. Her written work continues to inspire audiences globally, giving readers practical insights they can carry into their daily lives.

Her passion for empowerment flows into her roles as an entrepreneur, speaker, mentor, and President of the a non profit, Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS) Stockton Chapter, where she remains committed to uplifting communities and honoring Filipino American heritage.

Most recently, Mafae led one of FANHS Stockton’s most successful events—the annual Bayanihan Gala. Under her leadership, the celebration united city officials, community partners, artists, and volunteers, shining a spotlight on culture, legacy, and local leaders who are shaping the future. Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Overcoming Obstacles — and Rising Through Them

Like many women who strive to lead with heart, Mafae’s path has not been without challenges. She has faced moments of doubt, cultural expectations, and the pressure of balancing motherhood, entrepreneurship, and community leadership simultaneously. As an immigrant, a Filipina, and a woman in leadership spaces, she often had to push through misconceptions and prove that compassion and strength can coexist.

One of the most unique challenges she has embraced is navigating and bridging generational gaps. In her work, whether mentoring youth, collaborating with elders in the Filipino American community, or leading organizations, Mafae witnesses firsthand how differences in communication, values, and experiences can create distance between generations. Instead of allowing these gaps to widen, she pours energy into building bridges of understanding, respect, and shared purpose.

Through workshops, storytelling, leadership coaching, and community gatherings, she brings generations together—empowering the youth with wisdom from their elders, and reminding elders of the power and brilliance of the next generation. This balance has become one of her greatest strengths.

Today, Mafae serves as President of the Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS) Stockton Chapter, where she leads with vision and heart. Most recently, she guided the chapter to hold one of its most successful events—the Bayanihan Gala—which beautifully united city leaders, partners, artists, youth, and volunteers in celebration of Filipino American heritage.

The event reflected Mafae’s gift: creating spaces where community thrives, cultures are honored, and people feel seen.
