Today we’d like to introduce you to Sona Avetisyan.
Sona, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my business at the exact moment my entire life changed. I left Glendale, where I had lived most of my adult life, and moved to Marina del Rey. Overnight, I went from a married housewife in a five-bedroom home with two kids, a full-time housekeeper, and a strong community of friends, to a divorced mom in a studio apartment with no help, no income, and no roadmap.
I had to move fast. But the truth is, the decision wasn’t hard. I knew my priorities. I wanted a flexible schedule so my children could feel supported through all these changes, and I wanted to help overwhelmed moms because I knew exactly what they craved and what it felt like to be drowning in responsibilities.
So I built a business around my zone of genius: organization.
Once I made the decision, I took action every single day. I designed my website in two days. I volunteered to help Facebook moms for free so I could build a portfolio. Those first few families ended up hiring me again for other rooms and recommending me to everyone they knew.
That’s how my business grew: entirely from word of mouth in my first year. It all started with a clear decision, a willingness to begin from zero, and a commitment to show up every day.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Becoming an entrepreneur meant learning an entirely new set of skills: marketing, selling, putting myself out there, and trusting my intuition. None of that came naturally to me in the beginning.
I had to break old habits, step far outside my comfort zone, and take action even on the days when doubt was louder than confidence. The hardest part wasn’t the work itself, it was becoming the version of myself who could keep going despite uncertainty. But every uncomfortable step built more clarity, more confidence, and more momentum.
Those struggles shaped me into the business owner I am today. They pushed me to grow, to trust myself, and to stay committed even when the path wasn’t easy.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m the founder of The Minimalist Me, a professional organizing and decluttering company focused on helping overwhelmed moms create homes that feel lighter, calmer, and easier to manage. I specialize in functional minimalism—systems that are simple, sustainable, and built for real family life.
What I’m most known for is my ability to go deeper than the physical organization of a home. I don’t just rearrange things or make a space look tidy. I can see the root of the problem: the patterns, the habits, and the overwhelm sitting underneath the clutter. When a project is finished, it’s not only the home that changes. My clients feel different. Their stress drops, their thinking shifts, and their relationship with their space becomes lighter and easier.
I’m also known for creating systems that are deeply functional but still beautiful. Function always comes first, yet the final result looks clean, elevated, and thoughtfully designed. That blend of practicality and aesthetics is what sets my work apart.
I’m most proud that my business was built entirely from heart, word of mouth, and results.
What I want readers to know is this: your home can support you. Your space can give you energy instead of draining it. And even if you feel overwhelmed or buried under the weight of everything you’re holding, there is a way back to ease, clarity, and order. That’s what my brand exists for.
Any big plans?
I’m writing an organizing book for the overwhelmed mom who does everything alone, showing her how to take back her time, her energy, and her peace! I can’t wait to bring it into the world.
