Hidden Gems: Meet Tracey Navrides of Pearls of Wisdom, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracey Navrides.

Hi Tracey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
For most of life, I was a “jack of all trades” and a “master of none”. As a teen, I was “too smart for my own good” and it never served me. When my husband and I met, he always heard how much I regretted not attending college. He had achieved a Masters degree and had grown up with a father who was a school teacher, so the answer was obvious. He offered to support me through school, if I was interested.
Well, he didn’t have to ask me twice. I jumped at the chance to heal my biggest regret and began school. First Pasadena City College, transferred to Cal State Northridge, then into a Masters program at Phillips Graduate University. I graduated with honors all along the way.
After the long internship, two state board exams, I became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I have been practicing for many years now and love what I do. I have heard people talk throughout my life about a person being born to do what they do….I was born to be a therapist! Even my therapist (yes, I was a client/patient first) declared I was the most organically grown therapist she had ever met. Now, go get the degrees and license to do what you were meant to do!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of my struggles along the way….as a young person I was interested in many different careers. I loved music, singing, dancing and acting. That’s what led me to Los Angeles where I pursued acting and singing for a few years and even cut a demo in Nashville. But, being a sensitive, empathic person does not lend itself well to how “brutal” the entertainment industry can be and how your dreams can be shattered.
Achieving a formal education was really what made the difference for me. It allowed me to remember how capable a student I was and how my sensitivities and empathic abilities could be used to help others.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Along with my private practice came my abilities as a performer. I began to use whiteboards in my practice to illustrate ideas to my clients/patients. I used metaphor and analogies to help them remember what they were learning in their sessions to achieve the shifts in their lives.
Many of my clients/patients encouraged me to figure out how to produce my illustrations and approaches to therapy. Along came Pearls of Wisdom LLC and Pearls of Wisdom Coaching.
So, the first book came…Pearls of Wisdom-Everyday Sayings to Enhance Your Life-Book 1 “Self and Self”. This is a book about your relationship to you!
Then came video production! It took a minute to hone that skill, but I am proud to say I have a YouTube channel called Pearls of Wisdom Coaching with over 50 videos and more to come.
Then came books two and three…Pearls of Wisdom-Everyday Sayings to Enhance Your Life-Book 2 “Self and Other” which is a book about your relationship to other people.
And Pearls of Wisdom-Everyday Sayings to Enhance Your Life-Book 3 “Self and Parenting” which obviously is a book about your relationship to being a parent.
Although I have had feedback that the “parenting” book would be good for anyone to read because we all had parents of some kind and it could give you insight into yourself, as well as, being a parent!

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I grew up around some very wise and beautiful women. My mother was a strong, sometimes tough, very accomplished woman. Her best friends were my Great Aunt Carol and Frannie. My Aunt Carol was the wisest woman I have ever known and my Frannie was the most glamorous!
Aunt Carol was the most emotionally supportive to me. Frannie inspired me to always be a “lady” and to carry myself with grace and style.
Mom told me my whole life that I could be anything I set my mind to….to use my brain and I was smart! Remember the “too smart for her own good”. It took me into adulthood, to understand what my mother was trying to say to me and to realize and recognize my intelligence. To realize as strong as my mother was, so was she fragile and vulnerable and had no clue how to nurture herself. Book Two is dedicated to her!
As my first “other” my mother was not perfect! She did the best with what she was given and I believe my sensitivity and empathy come from her. I will be forever grateful for her!
