Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Warren Jr.
Eric, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hello, My name is Eric Warren Jr (EJ). I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Speaker and Certified Batterers Intervention Facilitator. I obtained a BA in Business Management and went on to received his Master of Arts in Counseling in Psychology at Pacific Oaks College. I began his career as a psychotherapist working with a partnering agency (Sycamores) of the Department of Mental Health in South Los Angeles. While working with Sycamores I served as a clinician for various programs including Wraparound, TBS and FSP. In conjunction with providing individual clinical services I also facilitate court ordered services including anger management and batterers intervention through the mental health organization “Pride Rock Wellness” that he co-founded alongside of William Elliott and Andres Ruiz. In 2019 Pride Rock Wellness was given clearance to conduct processing groups for incarcerated youth at Barry Nordoff Juvenile Hall where I was able to help youth understand the principles of Emotional Intelligence. In 2024 I began role as Clinical Supervisor for Proverbs Counseling Services led by Nicole Whaley, LCSW, LPCC. I am a firm believer that the journey toward individual healing will involve having to travel on unpaved roads that lead to redemption. I am passionate about healing and growing with couples, individuals, and families in hopes they realize their greatness within.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been smooth. While starting my graduate program my oldest child was diagnosed with irretractable epilepsy which completely rocked my world. Despite being full of shock, disbelief and sorrow I was blessed to continue to press forward realizing that quitting school would not do my family any good. Fast Forward Is because of those dark moments that Im know able to be a light for others. The road you take to discover your purpose of often times peppered with equal parts pleasure and pain.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a LMFT my specialty is Solution Focused Therapy (SFT). The best way to describe SFT would be that it is a practical and optimistic therapy that emphasizes a person’s strengths, resources, and past successes to create solutions for current challenges. Instead of analyzing problems in depth, it asks, “What do you want to achieve?” and “What steps can we take to get closer to that goal?”
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I truly believe that taking risk is necessary but only when you take a calculator with you. lol. We often hear coaches and motivational speakers saying “no risk no reward” and while there is truth to the saying its also best practice to be educated about what you are taking a chance on to increase desired outcome. A major risk I took was moving to Los Angeles almost 2 decades ago. As a proud native of St. Louis, Missouri I knew that the world was bigger than the STL and felt Los Angeles would be a great location to confirm such notion. To quote American novelist Erica Jong “If you don’t risk anything, you risk even more”.
