Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Solano.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Ever since my older brother brought home an electric guitar when I was 14, I’ve been drawn to the creative process of making music. That moment sparked a lifelong journey of learning how to create and explore sound. With limited resources available at the time, most of my early education was self-taught, but I took every opportunity to attend seminars and workshops in Los Angeles to expand my knowledge.
As a young adult, I worked in sales, marketing, and as a product specialist in the musical instruments industry while continuing to refine my production and mixing skills. Over time, that dedication opened the door to working full-time as an audio professional.
Today, I collaborate with artists from around the world and share my expertise through my YouTube channel, where I create tutorials on music production and mixing to inspire the next generation of creators.
One of the highlights of my journey was being recognized by Apple Music for my engineering work and being featured in The Engineers playlist. That recognition wasn’t just a personal achievement—it represented the collective effort of all the artists, producers, and labels I’ve had the honor to work with. My success is connected to theirs. Every project is a shared story, and I take pride in helping others bring their creative vision to life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest challenge has always been stepping into the unknown. Every entrepreneur walks into places of discovery that are tied to their purpose, but rarely does the journey go exactly as expected. It’s really about having faith—taking steps without knowing what’s ahead—and allowing that process to shape you. Through those experiences, you grow into your purpose, learn new skills, and build meaningful relationships that last.
A pivotal moment for me came in 2021, when I began exploring a new audio format called immersive audio. At the time, there was a lot of speculation that major record labels would soon begin outsourcing mixes to engineers equipped to work in Dolby Atmos. Once I saw the potential, I decided to take the leap and invest in building a Dolby Atmos studio from the ground up. There were no guarantees—it was a significant risk—but I believed this was the future of music and a defining step for my career. Four years later, having mixed more than 500 songs in Dolby Atmos for artists around the world, that leap of faith proved to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I wear a few different hats. Firstly, I’m a sound engineer — I get to work on songs from artists in all kinds of genres and styles, which keeps things exciting and fresh. Mixing and mastering has always been something I love doing, but when I got into Immersive Audio in 2021, everything really opened up. That shift led me to work with major labels and artists around the world.
Another side of what I do is teaching. I’ve always believed in sharing what I know, and my YouTube channel has been a big part of that. It’s where I create tutorials to help other creatives learn how to mix and master music. That’s also led to some amazing opportunities to teach workshops and visit commercial studios — from Los Angeles to India and Dubai — which has been an incredible experience.
There are so many talented producers and mix engineers out there — not just in the major music hubs like LA or Nashville. What I think sets me apart is my approach to helping the artist. At the end of the day, this is a service industry, and I’m here to serve the vision of the person I’m working with. When an artist or label reaches out about mixing, I approach it with care and intention, making sure they’re seen and heard in the best possible light. My job isn’t to show off my skills or put my “signature sound” on every mix — it’s to help the client succeed and make the process an enjoyable, collaborative experience from start to finish.
What does success mean to you?
Success is not found in the end product—the mix. I believe success is discovered in the process of creating it. For me, it’s about how the communication, collaboration, and creative flow are handled throughout the journey. It’s not just the final result that defines success, but the path that leads you there—the moments of truly connecting with the artist, discovering new ideas together, and being willing to let go of what doesn’t serve the song. It’s about the relational component and shared vision that unfold throughout the creative journey.
Many times, when working directly with artists, we end up in a completely different place than where we started—and that’s the beauty of it. I don’t see it as time wasted; I see it as part of my role to take initiative, stay open, and bring my best ideas to the table. My goal isn’t just to deliver a great-sounding mix—technology and AI tools can help with that. What I want to create is a positive, memorable experience for the artist, one that leaves them feeling inspired, valued, and excited about their music.
