Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Winkler.
Hi Michelle, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started playing golf at the age of 9 and became efficient enough to earn a D1 Scholarship to Xavier University. After graduation, I started my journey to become a Class A PGA Professional and spent 10 years teaching at private golf courses in CT. I met my husband while working in CT, and when Covid hit, I decided to move to CA to spend my life with him. After 5 months of living in CA, I was offered the Women’s Golf Coach position at CSU Northridge and have been the coach ever since!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been a relatively “smooth” road for me. Maybe it’s the perspective I have. I have worked very hard my entire adult life and put 100% into everything I do. I pride myself in creating very strong relationships in this industry and putting myself into situations that make me uncomfortable. There are always struggles along the way – being “unemployed” for 5 months when I moved to CA was rough, but I am grateful for where it has all led me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am the Head Women’s Golf Coach at CSU Northridge. I am most proud of elevating my team from a 230(ish) NCAA ranking to a 104 (most recent) ranking. I think what sets me apart in this field are the certifications/credentials I brought to the table from my previous job, as well as all of the relationships I have with coaches on the PGA/LPGA Tours.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I still teach lessons/do golf schools/film golf videos, when I am not coaching. People can always reach out to me over social media (Instagram) if they want to collaborate with me. I always welcome those that want to support my team and D1 Women’s Golf!
