Meet Barbie Dangond of Lift Life Travel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbie Dangond.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I moved to Bogotá, Colombia in my 20s for a teaching job just one month after my boyfriend was killed in a motorcycle accident. I lived there for two years and learned that travel was an effective coping mechanism for processing grief and for personal growth. As the years went on, I often learned to use backpacking-style travel as a way to gain perspective on any challenges going on in life. After a mid-life marriage crisis, during which I used backpacking travel as a way to gain clarity and create space in the relationship, I felt a calling to offer backpacking travel experiences to women who may be dealing with their own heavy challenges in life.

By traveling lightly with just one backpack to other countries, and by engaging in culturally authentic & nature experiences, we can grow, heal, mature, and see our lives through a new lense.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My business partner, Shannon, and I incorporated the business in January of 2020. We had no idea that the whole world would shut down a few months later. We had to cancel our very first trip and that was so disappointing. We were so eager to get started, but we just had to wait.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Lift Life Travel?
We offer international backpacking adventures for women. Our travelers bring just 1 backpack for a 10 day trip and we never check luggage. As we often say, “Drop baggage on the outside, drop baggage on the inside.”

Our trips are not tours – they’re adventures. We can get very off the beaten path. You may find us rafting through a jungle in Indonesia, hiking a volcano in Guatemala, or participating in a sunrise ceremony at a monastery in Thailand. We do all of this with other women who are wanting a new life experience.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
In addition to leading Lift Life Travel, I’m also a gestational surrogate – currently pregnant with my 4th surro-baby. Being of service to women who may be going through life challenges encompass both my personal and professional life.
