Conversations with Debra Paredes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Debra Paredes.

Hi Debra, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I got started in a really organic way, as a mom who loved creating beautiful celebrations for my family. While planning my daughters 5th birthday, something clicked for me. I had been a stay-at-home mom for over a decade, and as much as I loved being present for my kids, I was craving something of my own again. A new chapter that allowed me to express my creativity, contribute financially, and still be there for my family.

Re-entering the traditional workforce after so many years away proved to be more difficult than I expected. I was looking for something flexible, fulfilling, and financially rewarding and when I couldn’t find it, I created it.

What started with one birthday setup turned into friends asking for help, then referrals, then bookings for strangers who found my work online. I’ve poured myself into learning new design techniques, business basics, logistics, pricing and client experience. There haven’t been any shortcuts, just a lot of late nights, YouTube tutorials, trial and error, and a commitment to showing up with professionalism and heart.

Today, my business has grown from simple balloon décor into full event design and rentals. I’ve had the honor of working with families, schools, nonprofits, and businesses across Orange County who trust me to bring their celebrations to life. I’m building this business from the ground up while raising a family, and that’s something I’m incredibly proud of. My journey didn’t begin with a business degree or a big investment, it began with passion, resilience, and the decision to bet on myself.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all! Building a business is a constant process of growth, problem solving and resilience. I am a one woman show (with lots of help from my husband & kids) learning everything at once.
I’ve had to push through limiting beliefs. I don’t come from a business background. I’ve often found myself questioning, “who am I to build something like this?”

Another very real challenge has been being a woman in business, especially in an industry that is often underestimated. Creative work is often dismissed as “just party stuff.” I’ve had to advocate for myself, be firm in my pricing, walk away from clients who questioned my worth and integrity and earn respect in spaces where I was expected to compromise.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an event designer. I create everything from custom balloon installations and luxury bounce houses to full event design and curated décor. But more than anything, I strive to create moments people feel.
I believe the best events aren’t just “pretty”; they mean something. They honor milestones, celebrate people, and bring families and communities together. That’s why I obsess over details most people don’t even notice.
What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients have in me. My clients know when they work with me, they’re not getting something cookie cutter. Every event is personalized. Every design is thoughtful. And every project matters to me
whether it’s a first birthday in a backyard or a corporate event for hundreds.
What sets me apart is my commitment to bringing my clients’ vision to life. No matter what it takes. I listen deeply, I care about the details, and I’m fully invested in every event I take on. If there’s a challenge, I solve it. If something needs to be adjusted, I find a way.
Because to me, this work isn’t about decorations, it’s about people, memories, and moments that matter.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Ohh let’s see! A fun fact about me, I can’t start a project without either a podcast or Bad Bunny playing. It doesn’t matter if it’s 6am and I’m loading a truck or building a backdrop in the garage, I always need something playing in the background. Half the time I’m deep into a parenting or human psychology podcast the other half I’m in full concert mode with Benito. It’s my version of balance.
