Today we’d like to introduce you to Dinah Englund.
Hi Dinah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story begins growing up in Mandeville Canyon with dogs, cats, chaos, and four older brothers who constantly tried to destroy the younger brother until it got to me. I would then get pummeled as well. On the flip side of this was my other life. My mother was the actress, Cloris Leachman. She was my entire existence. After four boys, I was born. Waiting for a girl, she put me in her back pocket and we never looked back. My life has been both indescribably incredible, and simultaneously learning to survive my brothers and my father.
After my mother’s death, I completely lost my identity of being her daughter, which had been working for both her and me all my life. I was half way through my own life with no idea of who I am and what was important to me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I had to start from zero, asking questions about myself to myself. What makes me get out of bed in the morning? What moves me? What time do I prefer to eat my meals? What do I really enjoy eating? Etcetera. As I began my Hero’s Journey, I fell into what has healed me the most ~ by a long shot. . I have been on a life mission to go deeper and heal the trauma and the wounds we all have. I knew talking about it was helpful in identifying the problem but to get to where it lived, where it emanated from ~ that’s where I wanted to go. Through trying to help my brother I fell into my life’s purpose. I have studied deeply into sound meditation, breath, and the architecture of the mind. As I dove farther inward, I was guided toward my own method, The Skirna Method. I had the same dream four consecutive times in one morning. I was told to remember a certain word. It was Skirna. It’s a Norse word from the 6-9 century. It has it’s own runes depicting the word. It means: To Become Clear.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Thought Work. Breath Work. Psychedelic Sound Meditation. The Skirna Method begins with thought work around the limiting beliefs we create that shape our lives, our relationships, and our decisions. When we believe these thoughts of low self worth, not belonging, being perfect etc. the outcome is always the same. We find situations to reflect back to us ~ the “truth” about who we really are.
In the following steps, we use tools such as breath work, vocalization and the universal, gigantic power of sound to quiet the mind. In this way we are giving our higher selves the floor to speak. It gives our true voice the chance to listen, to learn and understand what our essential selves really want and need and desire in order to thrive.
What I love about this work is that it is participatory. Each of us is responsible for our own healing. I am here to help facilitate your healing on this journey through this life, to help you get to who you really are and to where you truly want to go.
