We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jason William Galbraith Rollo Stuart Bruce. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Jason, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
What I’m most proud of building is my brand — “Greatest Author of My Generation.” #GAOMG
Twenty years ago, I knew I would become who I am today. On January 1st, 2007, with my first book in hand (Full Moon Rising: Based on a True Story), I stood in the freezing rain of Times Square — in my Speedo — declaring to the world that I would become the Greatest Author of My Generation. I posted it on YouTube and across every platform I could find. It wasn’t about fame; it was about conviction — about living the story I was writing.
Over the past two decades, I’ve built this legacy independently, with no help from literary agents or major publishers. Through self-publishing, social media, YouTube, digital branding, and even the medical technology that kept my heart beating through Atrial Fibrillation Ablation, I’ve kept writing, creating, and documenting every step.
Writing my trilogies has always been about self-discovery — uncovering who I am as a paternal descendant of Robert the Bruce and maternal descendant of Clan Galbraith, and proving it through Y-DNA research. My latest, Gelding the Chief — my second trilogy, connecting to my first — merges verified lineage with storytelling, history, and science in a way no one has done before.
Through it all, I’ve embraced Autotelling — where the author becomes the story. Like my ancestor Robert the Bruce — defeated at Methven but inspired by a spider to try again — I’ve learned that greatness is keeping going, even when nobody sees the struggle.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Mission Statement – Jason William Galbraith Rollo Stuart Bruce
I am an author, historian, and advocate, blending verified centuries-old ancestry with 21st-century storytelling. My work is unique because it combines:
1. Verified Royal Lineage: I am a direct paternal descendant of King Robert the Bruce and maternal descendant of Clan Galbraith. My Y-DNA descent is confirmed by independent labs—FamilyTreeDNA’s BigY-700 and YFull (#YF138285, markers FGC78762, BY198644, BY200374). Paper trail + DNA = proof. My Civil War ancestors, including Calvin S. Johnston (Ulster-Annandale lineage), Embry, and Silvey, intermarried, connecting my Bruce line to documented American history—a lineage woven into my trilogies.
2. Autotelling & Historical Storytelling: I live the stories I write. My trilogies, including Gelding the Chief, merge genealogy, history, and science—spanning medieval Scotland, the Siege of Derry in 1689, and the American frontier. My August trip to Scotland—visiting standing stones, castles, battlefields, and Stonehenge—deepened my connection to my ancestors and informs every chapter I write.
3. Advocacy & Vision: I am campaigning for a modern “Scottish Warrior” honor—recognizing displaced Scots and foster children who excel in arts and athletics. I petitioned the Court of the Lord Lyon King of Arms and the Order of the Thistle for this award. The response was a blunt denial:
“There will never be any ‘Scottish Warrior’ designation for displaced Scots or children in foster care, regardless of their achievements in arts or athletics.”
This reflects outdated notions of honor and lineage—but like King Robert the Bruce, I embody resilience, strength, and honor. Warrior spirit transcends blood; it lives in the courage to rise despite adversity.
4. 21st-Century Tools & Independent Publishing: For over two decades, I have bypassed gatekeepers through self-publishing, social media, AI-assisted research, and digital storytelling—creating impact far beyond the traditional printed book. My work proves that independent authors can craft enduring, verifiable influence.
5. Personal Triumph: Surviving cancer, atrial fibrillation, foster care, and personal adversity shapes my work. My life reflects the same unbroken warrior spirit as my ancestors.
Current Projects:
Completing my 10th book, Gelding the Chief, closing my second trilogy—bridging modern survival with medieval ancestry.
Integrating my Scotland experiences into my writing to honor my ancestors and enrich historical authenticity.
Advocating for recognition of Scottish Warrior spirit in diaspora communities.
I am Jason William Galbraith Rollo Stuart Bruce—author, warrior, and living testament that lineage, perseverance, and creativity can create a legacy that transcends generations.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before my biological parents could tell me they hated me for being born, I already knew who I was: a Scottish Warrior, destined to become the Greatest Author of My Generation (#GAOMG). From birth, I was different from the hate-filled parents and world that abused me, carrying a legacy they could neither understand nor control.
Placed in foster care, I faced yet another parent’s rejection: my foster parent, a single man, a Boy Scout ring on his wedding finger, and a local church leader. He initially introduced me as his “son,” but over time, though I came to call him “dad,” he never reciprocated. He told me I would never amount to anything and that I was unlovable.
Despite this, I knew my purpose. An internal, powerful force—rooted in “The Bruce” DNA—catapulted me into action. I found my voice through writing. On January 1st, 2007, with my self-published my first book, Full Moon Rising: Based On A True Story, and launched my debut documentary on YouTube, Showing the Trials and Tribulations of Trying to Be Published as a Self-Published Author. Every book, video, and social media post since has formed a unified narrative—my story as an author, artist, athlete, warrior, and storyteller.
I pioneered autotelling, using 21st-century technology in ways that 20th-century authors could never achieve. I challenged the old publishing system, exposing how mainstream houses often favor celebrity authors and ghostwritten/AI works while silencing authentic, self-published, self-written voices. At the 2010 Book Expo of America, I made a bold, peaceful statement: wearing my Speedo with my book in hand, I recorded on YouTube, my advocacy and demonstrated that independent authors could reach audiences, define their own success, and leave a lasting legacy.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
When I Stopped Hiding My Pain and Started Using It as Power
The one thing I learned from being born into the hands of hateful parents—who abused, abandoned, and left me to die—was that the only things I could control were my body and mind. Ending up in foster care, I realized that no one could take from me the power to move, to think, to create.
I turned all the negativity, hate, and abuse into action. I began working out and writing daily. Push-ups, sprints, journaling, writing—none of it required money, only determination and grit. With each movement, each word on the page, I transformed the pain the world tried to impose into strength, skill, and purpose.
This is the lesson that drives my advocacy for the “Scottish Warrior” honour for children in foster care. Harnessing the world’s cruelty and converting it into resilience, achievement in the arts and athletics, is a rare skill—one I learned in the harshest circumstances and still practice every day. It is the same skill that enabled me to write my trilogies, pioneer autotelling across modern media, and advocate for recognition of a living Scottish Warrior spirit in diaspora communities.
Through this journey:
I discovered my ancestry and leveraged it into direct political and cultural action.
I faced gatekeeping from traditional power structures—in both heritage recognition and publishing—and overcame it through historic court victories and independent publishing success.
I proposed a bold new legacy initiative, the Scottish Warrior Honour, celebrating modern exiled Scots and foster youth who demonstrate resilience, creativity, and fire.
My Bruce DNA has been my compass—not for entitlement, but for duty, transformation, and courage.
This ancestral drive is woven into every story I tell, every book I publish, and every project I undertake. It is why I am the Greatest Author of My Generation (#GAOMG)—not by inheritance, but through fire, ink, truth, and the relentless will to turn adversity into power.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
That 8.1 billion people claim they want “real” and “authentic” stories—but almost none truly do.
For twenty years, I’ve given the world exactly that: real, raw, authentic storytelling through my books, YouTube, social media, and autotelling. Everything I share—every page, every post, every discovery—is digitally time- and location-stamped proof of a life lived with transparency, resilience, and truth.
Meanwhile, the world celebrates fake fighters, fake authors, and even fake royalty. I’m real. My story, my lineage, my DNA—all verifiable. I don’t claim to be the Greatest Author of My Generation. I am the Greatest Author of My Generation (#GAOMG)—because I’ve used every 21st-century tool available to tell my story, preserve my legacy, and continue discovering the living proof of my royal descent.
I use modern technology to connect past and present: publishing my books on Amazon, documenting my life on YouTube and Instagram, tracing my lineage through FamilyTreeDNA, YFull, and soon YSeq WQS + Sanger testing. My paternal Y-DNA descent from King Robert the Bruce—confirmed through FGC78762 → BY200374—is live and publicly verifiable on YFull Tree Kit #YF138285.
I’m not just writing history—I am history, revealed through 21st-century science and storytelling.
Enough with the red herrings. The truth is clear, and it’s exciting—for Scotland, for the Bruce legacy, and for anyone who believes that history, technology, and destiny can meet in one living person.
Hate fake. Love real.
I am 99.999% authentically descended from King Robert the Bruce—and everything I do proves it.
And this is why I fight for the Scottish Warrior Honour.
Authenticity isn’t just about ancestry—it’s about action. The honor I envision recognizes modern exiled Scots and foster youth who transform adversity into achievement in arts and athletics. It embodies the living spirit of a Scottish Warrior: courage, resilience, creativity, and the relentless drive to turn life’s challenges into triumph.
My DNA gives me lineage, but my choices, advocacy, and survival give it life today. I’ve faced cancer, A-fib, foster care, and a lifetime of adversity the world tried to use to destroy me—and I’m still here, still writing, still fighting. That is as real as it gets.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
The asphalt of Los Angeles burned beneath my feet. Every step of the LA Marathon in March 2023 was a gamble with death. I ran in my ancestral Galbraith kilt—the very bloodline my mother despised me for carrying—knowing my heart could stop at any mile. Atrial fibrillation rattled inside my chest; surgery loomed just weeks away. I told myself the truth: I may not finish this race alive.
But I also knew this: I can live with failing for my dreams; I cannot live with my dreams I fail to try.
Tucked against me was the manuscript of my tenth book—the final piece of my second trilogy, which ties back to my first. Twenty years, ten manuscripts, one dollar in book sales. Still, I ran. Not for applause, not for sales, but because the story demanded it. My life demanded it.
It wasn’t my first fight with death. I had already beaten Stage IV melanoma. Cancer couldn’t stop me from winning my MMA fight by knockout. I had sued Rupert Murdoch’s NewsCorp for $1.47 million, restoring wages to those he fired during the pandemic while his empire made record profits. Robin Hood with a pen.
But this marathon—this was different. This was me testing the limits of my body, my spirit, and my bloodline. Carrying the Bruce, Stewart, and Galbraith names forward on the edge of a collapsing heart. Though surgery nearly killed me once, and a second would be required to survive fully, twenty-first-century medicine held me here. Alive. Beating. Writing.
When I crossed that finish line, I wasn’t just a runner. I was Robert the Bruce’s son reborn in asphalt and sweat, proving sovereignty in sneakers. And it was only the beginning.
Because the true finish line—the one waiting across seven centuries—lies in Scotland. When I return with my completed second trilogy, connecting to my first, it will tell the stories of Robert the Bruce, Stewart, Galbraith, Johnston, Campbell, Rollo, Boyd, and Livingston: the kings, queens, and warriors of Scotland.
Bringing my trilogies home to Scotland, carrying my direct, living Bruce lineage, will be the greatest accomplishment of my life.
This is the story I want people to tell: that Jason William Galbraith Rollo Stuart Bruce lived fully, fought for truth and legacy, and made history come alive through ink, DNA, and action.
As I told my son, Donovan Jason, when he was 22 months old in the Asbury Park Press (Dec. 22, 2006): “I want my son to know I put every ounce of my soul into what I believed in. If you believe in something—be passionate about it, and give it everything you’ve got.”
If I had died running that LA Marathon in my ancestral Galbraith kilt, carrying my tenth book—my second trilogy—everyone would have known I died giving every ounce of my mind, body, and soul.
A soul Robert the Bruce himself would be proud of—for eternity.
