Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Pierce.
Hi Tara, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Before grad school, I knew I wanted to work in healthcare but wasn’t quite sure which path fit me best. I was drawn to the precision and artistry of cosmetic dentistry, then found myself interested in physical therapy and the way it helps people move and function better. On a whim one day, I stopped by the office of a female chiropractor in my hometown and after that spontaneous encounter, something shifted for me. I remembered my friend who had recovered from a serious car accident thanks to chiropractic care, and my dad, who used to joke that when his back went out, he’d crawl into the chiropractor’s office but always walk out. Those memories clicked finally. Chiropractic seemed to blend everything I cared about; science, art, and meaningful, hands-on healing.
Midway through chiropractic school, I decided to also pursue a master’s degree in acupuncture as another way to help people. I wanted to understand the body through multiple lenses and offer more comprehensive care that could bridge Eastern and Western approaches to health. As my career evolved, I became increasingly interested in the science of pain and muscle recovery, which led me to become certified in dry needling, a technique that allows me to target pain and dysfunction in ways other methods can’t always reach.
When I opened OC Well Studio in Newport Beach, my vision was to create a space where people feel truly cared for, not sold to. From the start, my goal has been to provide honest, effective, and ethical care that helps people feel and function their best without unnecessary drawn out treatment plans. I believe in empowering patients to take their health into their own hands, giving them the tools and knowledge to move, heal, and live better. Over the years, OC Well Studio has grown from a solo practice into a collaborative team offering chiropractic, acupuncture, dry needling, massage therapy and more.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to where OC Well Studio is today hasn’t always been smooth. Like most small businesses, there have been plenty of lessons, growing pains, and unexpected twists along the way. Each challenge has shaped me as a practitioner and as a business owner, teaching me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of staying true to my values.
When I started my practice, I had no business experience and a lot of idealism. I quickly learned that doing things with integrity sometimes means taking the harder road. From the beginning, I’ve made it a priority to represent myself honestly and to never take advantage of anyone’s trust. I’ve seen too many sales-driven approaches in healthcare, and I promised myself early on that I would never become that kind of practitioner. It’s not the easiest path when it comes to cash flow, but it’s the one that feels right for me and it’s what has built the kind of patient relationships and community I’m proud of.
As a mother, balancing my young children’s needs and schedules alongside running and actively working in the practice has been both challenging and rewarding. Every day is a juggling act, but it’s also a lot of fun. I’m excited for the continued growth of OC Well Studio and for the chance to keep learning, expanding, and improving while staying true to the core values that have guided me from the very beginning.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
OC Well Studio in Newport Beach is a multidisciplinary wellness practice. We offer chiropractic care, acupuncture, dry needling, and massage therapy, specializing in pain relief, improved function, and overall wellness for active individuals, athletes, and expecting mamas.
As a licensed acupuncturist, I’ve also chosen to become certified in dry needling. This is a treatment that’s not commonly available in California due to legal restrictions, even though other practitioners in other states provide it. As a licensed acupuncturist I have scope to provide this treatment in California, While dry needling is similar to acupuncture, it has distinct differences and benefits, and I’m grateful to be able to offer this option to patients who otherwise wouldn’t have access.
Multidisciplinary clinics aren’t all that unique, but if I had to say anything sets us apart it’s the energy with which we approach each patient’s care. We don’t push long term treatment plans. We provide patients with our recommendations based on what their concerns are, with the primary focus on empowering them to take control of their health. In the office we provide treatments that are effective, personalized, and focused on getting people out of the office and back to their lives.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I think the most important lesson I’ve learned is that you get out what you put into everything. Your business, your team, your family and yourself. Whenever I feel stagnant I know it’s time to invest. To invest in learning more, asking more questions, giving more and nurturing more.
