Dee Rowe shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Dee, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is a normal day like for you right now?
These days, my mornings begin alarm-free, and when my body is ready to rise, 95% of the time. I spend most mornings sipping ceremonial cacao, reading passages from a few thought-provoking books, and meditating. Then, I check in with my energy and muse for the day by asking myself, “What wants to be birthed through me today, and do I have the energy for it?” Based on what comes up, I might create new pieces for my Reiki-infused, intentionally made jewelry line. I might work on marketing emails or social media posts for an upcoming event I will be facilitating. I might spend the day energetically preparing myself to hold space for healing at such an event, if one is scheduled to take place that day. I may work on bookkeeping or administrative tasks, or flesh out an idea for a new offering. My evenings are spent connecting with my partner, and I fall asleep much more easily.
But, a few years ago, I woke up to a shrieking alarm and was required to check work voicemails and emails for any overnight “emergencies” before I’d even showered or dressed. The commute to work (and about 15 minutes spent sitting in my car in the parking lot upon arrival) was spent trying to summon the physical, mental, and emotional energy required to get through the workday, which was often 10 hours or longer. Those hours were spent solving problems for people who were angry, ungrateful, and resentful of the services I was slowly killing myself to provide. The evenings were spent in a dissociative fog, numbing myself enough from the day’s stress to fall asleep eventually. Every day, I woke up a little more drained and lifeless than the day before, and I saw no way out.
Thankfully, some unexpected shifts occurred in my life, which allowed me to start working on my passions instead of just for survival.
What a normal day is like for me today is a 180 from what it used to be, and words cannot express how grateful I am for that change. So, if you’re stuck in that seemingly endless cycle, remember that change is always possible. Don’t give up hope that a way out will appear. It did for me, it can for you, too.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a Certified Usui/Holy Fire® III Reiki Master, Sacred Ceremonies Facilitator, and ChakraFlow™ Practitioner. My work is rooted in a deep respect for energy healing, intentional living, and the wisdom of the body and spirit. A lifelong seeker, I’ve been a student of yoga on and off since the late 1990s—not as a teacher, but as a grateful participant on the mat.
My journey into Reiki, Ceremony, Sound Healing, and ChakraFlow began as a personal path to heal from decades of chronic stress, when life shifts allowed me to focus on my passions rather than simply surviving. Today, I find deep joy in sharing these practices with others, whether through healing sessions, sacred gatherings, or the Reiki-infused jewelry and artwork I create and sell at local pop-up markets. These intentional creations with a spiritual purpose are also available at a spiritual retail and event space, Spiritual Shangri-La, in Agua Dulce, CA. Originally from the San Diego area, I now reside in Santa Clarita, CA, where I continue to expand my offerings in service to the heart, body, and spirit.
My signature offering at the moment is a Cacao Ceremony and ChakraFlow Somatic Workshop experience that I partner with local yoga and wellness studios to provide. The cacao ceremony piece allows participants to ground into the space and their bodies, feel safe, and open their hearts and minds to the whispers of their intuition. Then, we move on to the ChakraFlow portion of the experience. ChakraFlow is a somatic movement practice developed by Michele Boyer, blending ancient wisdom, modern science, and vibrational healing to help you release stored emotions, align your energy centers, and reconnect with your inner flow. Guided by conscious breath, intentional movement, sacred geometry, and sound, this transformational experience awakens the body’s innate intelligence and opens pathways for balance, clarity, and personal empowerment. Each session is a sacred, grounding, liberating, and deeply healing journey through the chakras-which is why I’ve become so passionate about this particular offering!
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
That I was somehow inherently flawed-either not enough or too much, but never just right. I came to this conclusion as a very young child due to being born and raised in a high-demand religion, combined with unrecognized and undiagnosed AuDHD issues, which made me an easy target for schoolyard bullies.
Long after I graduated from school and left the high-demand religion of my family, this belief stuck with me. It controlled my decisions and responses until I was almost 40. Because of this belief, I played small, stayed in the shadows as much as possible, and unconsciously self-sabotaged many opportunities that came my way.
It was finally unlearning this belief and embracing the idea that I am inherently worthy, even with my flaws, that brought about the life shifts I mentioned earlier, allowing me to change nearly everything about the way I spend my days.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
The biggest wounds I have are around rejection. By the time I graduated high school, I had attended nine different schools, and at most of them, I didn’t fit in and was mercilessly bullied or excluded as a result. There were very few times in my life, even as a heavily masking adult, that I felt accepted for who I am. I felt the need to edit myself for just about everyone. It was rare for a person to make me feel safe enough to unmask and truly be myself for a moment.
To be fair, I am still healing these wounds. The first step was realizing that the most significant, deepest rejection wound I had was one I had inflicted on myself by believing I was not worthy of genuine love and acceptance. Ooofff, that pill was hard to swallow. The next step was to do the mindset work to rewire my brain and change that belief. Step two took years. Now, I am working on step three: learning to show up as the unmasked, authentic me and loving and accepting myself even when others reject me. It helps to realize that when they reject me, they are really rejecting a shadow part of themselves that they see in me.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The self-development/wellness/mindset/healing/spiritual industry is full of lies, just like any industry. In my view, the biggest are:
1. Positive Vibes/Thoughts Only aka Toxic Positivity: There is a place for affirmations, positive thinking, and manifestation, don’t get me wrong. But denying and belittling any “negativity” is not helpful. If grief is love with nowhere to go, why must I push it away? If anger brings about necessary change and revolution, why deny that feeling? Who decides what emotions, vibes, and thoughts are acceptable? If the point is to find a balance, why are we trying to exist only on one side of the scale instead of finding the middle?
2. The more expensive an experience/product/offering is, the more impactful it must be. Not only is this simply not true, but offering only high-ticket ‘luxury’ experiences is harmful. These could be exclusive retreats in exotic locations, high-priced wellness products, or celebrity-endorsed healing treatments. They make healing a commodity, and one that is out of reach of the majority of people. These often take place in foreign countries, where Westerners strain local economies by buying land and resources at prices that are far beyond the locals’ ability to keep pace with. Furthermore, true healing is rarely luxurious—it’s raw, unfiltered, sometimes painful, and not concerned with aesthetics.
3. You must be some attractive, perfect, healed “guru” to be successful. False. You can show up as an imperfect, still working through your stuff, hot mess of a person, and still facilitate powerful transformations and shifts. All you really need to be is someone with a heart of service and a little training in how to create and hold space that makes others feel safe enough to release and receive what they need to.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I leave this earthly existence, I hope people tell a story of a woman who, despite decades of conditioning to stay quiet, small, and safe, bravely shed those beliefs and her masks to shine brightly, loudly, and without fearing the judgments of others. I hope they talk of someone who championed for others so they could also find their glow and shine for all to see. I hope they speak of how I was a living example of listening to the still, small, divine voice within and ignoring the clamoring, chaotic noise of society’s endless expectations. I hope they remember how I found joy and magic in the little everyday things and saw the divine in everything.
