Today we’d like to introduce you to Seth Vitál.
Hi Seth, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve loved music for as long as I can remember. My dad toured in a “hair metal” band that covered artists like Metallica and Iron Maiden, and when I was young, he introduced me to the drum set. Since then, my journey has included performing in various bands, marching in drumlines, earning a degree in music at UC San Diego, DJing private events, and ultimately founding my music agency, Vital Event Group.
Vital Event Group took off in 2021, and since then I’ve DJed hundreds of weddings, collaborated with brands like Bloomingdale’s and Gucci, and built an incredible team of DJs and musicians I love working with. These days, I manage Vital Event Group during the week and DJ weddings on the weekends!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve had my share of struggles. I’ve lived in rehearsal studios, warehouses, and even my car. I’ve watched my bank account go negative. And I’ve battled stretches of intense self-doubt.
Still, I count myself lucky. I had a happy childhood, and my parents backed my decision to pursue music. I met my partner early in college—she believed in me long before I became successful and has supported me ever since. I also had the privilege of learning from two incredible mentors. The first, Kamau Kenyatta, was one of my college music professors, and he taught me as much about people as about music. The second, Shammy Dee, is an L.A. DJ who taught me some of the most valuable business lessons I know. I owe much of my success to him.
Contrary to popular belief, it’s possible to make a good living as a musician, but building that career takes hard work, the right support system, and a willingness to think outside the box. The journey to where I am today has been long—and it’s far from over—but I wouldn’t change a thing.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Vital Event Group?
Vital Event Group is a collective of DJs, MCs, and musicians specializing in luxury weddings. Beyond music, we provide lighting design, photo booths, and special effects—my personal favorite is our Vegas-style CO₂ cannon.
What sets us apart is our musicality.
Today’s couples see the best DJs and weddings in the world on Instagram and TikTok. They know what a good DJ sounds like. The bar is higher, and the days of the stereotypical wedding DJ—bad tuxedo, Spotify playlist, and choreographed line dances—are over.
Couples and their guests want to be impressed by their entertainment, and this is where Vital Event Group consistently delivers. Our DJs mix the way you’d expect from your favorite club DJ—smooth transitions, tasteful mashups, and impeccable crowd reading—combined with the organization, expertise, and elegance required of a wedding professional.
Many couples also book our DJ-plus-live-musician combos. In this format, the DJ is accompanied by live musicians such as percussionists, saxophonists, and electric violinists. You get the flexibility of a DJ who can play anything without losing the live energy and excitement of a wedding band.
We tailor the music and overall vibe to the people we’re performing for. Recently, I DJed a wedding at The Ebell of Los Angeles with a set of timeless wedding classics and nostalgic 2000s throwbacks. Twenty-four hours later, I DJed another wedding in the Hollywood Hills that leaned into modern house from artists like Dom Dolla, Fisher, and John Summit. The perfect wedding playlist varies from person to person, and when you challenge yourself as a DJ to truly understand who you’re performing for—and to create something new—you have the power to create euphoric memories for your couples and their loved ones.
Most importantly, everyone at Vital Event Group loves weddings and genuinely cares about the people we perform for.
Being a wedding vendor demands real time and energy. We sacrifice our weekends to make someone else’s weekend unforgettable. I’ve seen talented people burn out and grow jaded, and it’s a shame, because when you push through the challenges you remember this is the best job in the world. Every weekend, we help people throw the biggest celebration of their lives. Our work is creative, fun, and fulfilling. We meet incredible people and see them at their happiest.
At Vital Event Group, we never take that role for granted, and we’re committed to giving our couples and their guests the best experience possible.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was a fairly imaginative kid. Some of my fondest childhood memories are the make-believe quests my brother and I would embark on during summer breaks. Sometimes we were knights, sometimes we were wizards, and occasionally we were WWE wrestlers attempting a poorly executed F-5 or Stone Cold Stunner.
In high school, I took my schoolwork seriously and earned straight A’s. At one point, I thought I wanted to be a lawyer, but that’s a story for another day.
My creative outlets included marching in the drumline and playing drum set in a few bands. At home, I wrote drum cadences for pep rallies and produced music in an early version of FL Studio.
I was a bit of a prankster, too. In chemistry class, I once set my friend’s homework on fire with a Bunsen burner (don’t worry—my pyromaniac days are long behind me!). I also convinced my history teacher my name was “Alejandro” for my entire junior year. My senior year, I needed a letter of recommendation for college, so I finally told him my real name.
If there’s a common theme, it’s that I was always happiest when I was doing something—working toward a goal, composing a song, or devising my next prank. I was definitely a quirky kid, but those experiences helped develop the creativity I now pour into being a DJ and business owner.
