Inspiring Conversations with Caleb Muia of Unexclusive

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caleb Muia.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Absolutely. I started my clothing brand, Unexclusive, in a small college apartment in Wayne, Nebraska, alongside my girlfriend, Miranda Roth. Miranda is a naturally gifted artist, and I’ve always been passionate about marketing and entrepreneurship—so we felt like the perfect team to build something meaningful together.

We started simple: just one design and two colors. But from day one, the heart behind Unexclusive was clear. We didn’t want to be just another clothing brand. We wanted to build something that represented the people who often feel left out or overlooked.

Growing up as a Black kid in an all-white school, I constantly felt like I didn’t quite belong. I struggled to find my people, the ones who truly accepted and understood me. That feeling stuck with me, and it became the inspiration behind the name Unexclusive. It’s our way of saying, “Everyone’s welcome here.” No gatekeeping, no judgment—just genuine community and connection.

Our logo—a “V” made of two hands coming together—represents unity, collaboration, and the idea that we’re stronger when we lift each other up. In a world that often feels divided, we want Unexclusive to be a brand that celebrates differences, not just tolerates them. We’re building something that reminds people they’re not alone, and that their uniqueness is exactly what makes them valuable.

Today, Unexclusive is growing beyond anything we imagined back in that tiny apartment. But the mission remains the same: to create clothes with meaning, and a community where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, not at all. It’s been anything but smooth—but every bump in the road has taught me something.

I didn’t realize how challenging it would be to build and maintain a brand until I was in the middle of it. From the outside, we see clothing brands online and think, “Oh, that looks easy—just make some shirts and start making money.” But there’s so much more to it. Marketing, holding inventory, paying for shipping, tracking everything, managing orders—it quickly became way more than I expected.

Right after placing our very first bulk order, I had to move across the country—from Nebraska to Arizona. I had to leave all the inventory behind and figure out how to keep things running while transitioning to a new state and new environment. I didn’t realize how much space clothing inventory would take up or how time-consuming it would be to inspect and package every piece myself. We dealt with a lot of unexpected issues—quality problems, stains on clothes, wrong colors sent from manufacturers. And when things go wrong in this business, it’s not just frustrating—it’s expensive.

There were times I was financially stretched and genuinely questioned whether I could keep going. But Unexclusive means more to me than just clothes. It’s my story, my identity, my way of connecting with others who feel like they don’t belong. So even when things have been hard—and they definitely have—I stay focused on building this brand because it represents who I am and how I live. And I truly believe in where it’s going.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Unexclusive?
Unexclusive is more than just a clothing brand—it’s a movement. We’re here to represent the people who feel like outsiders, who’ve never really fit in, and who are still looking for a place to belong. We create clothing that stands for inclusivity, empathy, and acceptance. Our designs are rooted in purpose, and everything we release is built to help people feel seen, valued, and part of something real.

We specialize in streetwear that makes a statement—not just with words, but through the story behind every piece. From our logo, which features two hands coming together to symbolize unity and connection, to our brand name itself, Unexclusive, everything we do is about breaking down barriers and reminding people they don’t need to change to belong. They already do.

What sets us apart is our mission. We’re not just trying to follow trends—we’re building a community. We’re proud of our growing ambassador and model team, who help us tell that story authentically across social media and in real life. They’re not just promoting clothes; they’re sharing a message that matters.

One of the things I’m most proud of is how far we’ve come in such a short time, and how strong our message still stands. We’ve only had a couple of drops, but every time, people connect with the mission. They message us and say, “This feels like me.” That’s what makes it worth it.

We offer high-quality, statement-driven clothing—hoodies, tees, joggers, beanies, tanks, and more—that are built to last and made with care. We’re also expanding our offerings through ambassador programs, model partnerships, and pop-up events to bring people together in real life.

If there’s one thing I’d want readers to know, it’s this: Unexclusive is a space where your differences aren’t just accepted—they’re celebrated. You don’t have to blend in here. You just have to show up as yourself.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Absolutely. First and foremost, the Bible has had the greatest impact on my life—both personally and professionally. It’s my foundation and daily reminder to lead with purpose, humility, and love. A lot of what I pour into my brand Unexclusive is rooted in the values I’ve found through scripture—things like compassion, community, and servant leadership.

When it comes to books, Atomic Habits by James Clear has been huge for helping me build structure and discipline in my everyday routines. It taught me how small changes lead to big results. The Leadership Handbook by John C. Maxwell helped me grow as a leader, especially as I’ve started working with models, ambassadors, and potential partners. His insights on influence, responsibility, and growth-minded leadership really stuck with me.

I also found Day Trading Attention by Gary Vee incredibly impactful. It shifted how I think about marketing and building community online. Gary’s approach helped me realize how important it is to understand where attention is going—and how to show up authentically to serve that audience.

These resources have helped me stay aligned, focused, and inspired—both in business and in life.
