Community Highlights: Meet Bieta Kia of Bieta kia Physical Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bieta Kia.

Hi Bieta, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always aspired to build a career that blends my passion for athletics with my interest in medicine, while allowing for autonomy in my approach to patient care. I began my journey by earning a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology – Exercise Science from the University of Minnesota in 2008, followed by a Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2013.

Since then, I have specialized in outpatient physical therapy, with a strong focus on orthopedic conditions and sports-related injuries. As a lifelong fitness enthusiast, I bring both personal insight and professional expertise to my practice. I am deeply committed to helping individuals return to their sport or activity at full capacity, not only recovering from injury but also enhancing overall performance.

My treatment philosophy emphasizes individualized care plans, conservative interventions, and patient education. I strive to identify and address the root cause of each issue, not just the symptoms, to ensure long-term results and a meaningful improvement in quality of life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve truly enjoyed the journey of my career, but as life often does, it brought unexpected changes. My husband and I relocated to the Thousand Oaks area in June of 2018, and I quickly realized that the physical therapy and rehabilitation landscape here was quite different from what I was used to in Minnesota. I came from a model that supported longer treatment sessions and greater autonomy for practitioners — something that felt much more limited here due to strict insurance guidelines and increased pressure on clinics.
I had always envisioned practicing independently, but being new to the area and in the early stages of building my support system, I hesitated. Then came the pandemic. I had a 10-month-old at home, was working in a job that made me deeply unhappy, and felt like I was losing the passion and drive that had fueled me through years of training and experience.
With the support of my incredible husband and a few key people in my life, I finally decided to take a leap of faith. In March 2022, I began building my own practice — one patient at a time. I started with just a table and some music in a yoga room at Westlake Yoga Company. From there, I slowly and intentionally built a practice grounded in quality care, patient connection, and trust. Today, I’m proud to say my practice thrives, primarily through word-of-mouth referrals.
To me, the most meaningful journeys are often the ones marked by challenge. They reveal our strength, test our perseverance, and ultimately shape our purpose.

As you know, we’re big fans of Bieta kia Physical Therapy . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I specialize in a range of evidence-based, hands-on techniques tailored to meet each patient’s unique needs. My treatment approach combines deep manual therapy with targeted movement strategies to restore function, relieve pain, and optimize performance.

I take great pride in my commitment to each patient’s recovery journey, using a total-body, results-driven approach. My goal is always to have patients leave each session feeling better than when they arrived—and to provide lasting outcomes, not just temporary relief. I place strong emphasis on education, equipping my patients with the tools they need to maintain their progress and break the cycle of recurring injury.

What sets me apart is my hands-on, personalized care throughout every session. I focus on identifying and addressing dysfunction in muscles, ligaments, fascia, and tendons—areas often overlooked in more passive or generalized treatments. I provide techniques that patients can’t replicate on their own, paired with customized home exercises to support ongoing healing and performance.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is the authenticity of my practice and leading with heart and compassion. My patients are never just a number—I am fully invested in their recovery, and their goals become my goals.

I build strong, trusting relationships by being present, engaged, and truly listening. I love when patients reach out after a session to share how they’re feeling or celebrate their progress. Knowing that they’re experiencing relief and regaining confidence in their movement is what fuels my passion every day.
