Community Highlights: Meet Jenna Suru of Belle Époque Films

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna Suru.

Jenna, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I program the Paris International Film Festival which is now in entering its seventh year. I was inspired by the production of L’Âge d’Or and wanted to broadcast an event for international films and screenplays, under the Belle Époque Films umbrella and without the usual concerns of language gaps.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Working across the scope of production has been an obvious challenge. That being said, it is also a strength to the films that were awarded, like Warhol directed by Adam Ethan Crow that is now streaming on Mubi or Maria’s Silence which screened at Cannes.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Belle Époque Films?
Producing Happy, an adaptation of Robert Caisley’s work on the LA stage remains an achievement and the backbone of kickstarting my company before L’Âge d’Or. There is a certain pride in producing theatre and comedy in particular. That being said, PIFF accepts any genre from any country around the globe.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Team work is my most precious asset, I wouldn’t do without the experience of those who are on field and share.
