Hidden Gems: Meet Farid Soriano of Flagship Motorsport

Today we’d like to introduce you to Farid Soriano

Farid, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I was 18 my father passed away and I had to figure out how to protect and provide for my family. My mom had a 2004 Range Rover and I had a 2004 Discovery that needed maintenance and repairs.
I was a car salesman at the time and saved up enough money to buy my first set of Craftsman Tools and necessary parts. There wasn’t much information on the internet back then so I reverse engineered everything. Ten years later here I am working at Mitchell’s British Automotive and building my own business.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road. A very painful learning curve. I’ve only had two experiences that made me the mechanic I am today. I was doing an engine swap and didn’t notice two guiding pins mating and I broke the engine. And one time I cut my right palm and had to get several stitches.
Since then I pay very close and meticulous attention to every mating surface, bolt, nut, washer, safety hazard (etc.), triple check all my work and haven’t had one fault since.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
For the past ten years I’ve specialized on repairing Land Rovers and Jaguars. I’m known for being able to take anything apart and put it back together. What sets me apart from others is my passion, patience, and perseverance. I will not stop until the job is done. I’m proud of not giving up and showing up everyday. How you do anything is how you do everything and I’ve always wanted to be the best.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Everyday under these 5,000 lbs plus rovers on a two post lift is a risk. Taking on a repair you’ve never done before is a risk. Starting a business hoping someday you’ll make it is a risk. What is life without risk. When you come from nothing and you want to eat you “Got to risk it to get the biscuit.”
