Rising Stars: Meet Taewon of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taewon

taewon, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is HeyTaewon, and I am a West Coast Producer from Seattle, Washington. I now live in Los Angeles, California. I started making beats in 2020 during the pandemic since all we had is time. I decided to pursue beats because I was always into music since a kid, just never really thought to pursue it as a career. I grew up in Los Angeles for a lil bit as a kid too and during that time, I was friends with Laudiano, but we were just in middle school not even thinking about no music. I left after 8th grade but always seen his instagram stories posting he was making beats and by 2020 he was a well recognized west coast producer. So by the time I thought about producing, I thought to myself if someone I know can make it, so can I. It was a lot of struggles before doing this though too, from 18-21 I was just figuring a bunch of things out. I was homeless for 2 months living in my car, to renting a room inside a shared home working 12 hour labor job shifts from 3am-3pm, then one day after I got my paycheck, I decided to quit and buy all the producing equipment and move out with an old friend to a new apartment, this was all in Seattle. During the come up producing, I was working doordash and then when that wasn’t cutting it, I found an overnight hotel job which was perfect cause I can just make beats in the back. I worked form 10pm-7am front desk, but nobody really comes to the front at that time, so I would just be in the back office making beats all night. As I’m running up my placements, maybe 2 years in I get my first big check from music. I quit my job the next day and pursued this producing 1000% ever since.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The main struggle was just trying to get noticed at first. But my tactic was to post so much everywhere that it would be kinda hard to ignore my presence. Especially already knowing the niche of music I wanted to do, West Coast. The other struggle was just financially tryna make sure I was good, working while still being able to make beats and post everywhere.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
West Coast Beats but I also release and put albums together like dj khaled. I’m known for making beats like Shilo by EBK Jaaybo but have just become known as a well rounded overall west coast producer.

What matters most to you? Why?
Consistency and Quality. Consistency will always matter because being consistent will result in success no matter what. It’s basically practice. Quality matters because, as a consumer and fan myself, I know I don’t enjoy things that aren’t quality so why would I put that out.
